Admire the Beauty of Wat Phumin

Wat Phumin is a royal temple located in Nai Wiang Subdistrict, Mueang District. Originally named Wat Phrommin, it was named after Chao Jettabutr Phrommin and was built in 1596. The unique beauty of Wat Phumin is that it is the only temple in Thailand built in a cruciform shape. It appears to be situated on the backs of two large Naga serpents. The building serves as both the ordination hall, the vihara, and the main chedi. At the center of the ordination hall, there are four large Buddha statues facing the four cardinal directions. Another highlight of the temple, which is widely renowned, is the mural paintings or 'Hoop Taem,' depicting Jataka tales, the way of life, and local legends of the people of Nan in the past. The most famous painting is the 'Whispering Love' mural by Nan Bua Phan, a local Tai Lue artist.
