Hiroshima: A Journey Where Past Wounds Meet Hopes for Peace

Hiroshima was the city that touched me most deeply during my trip to Japan. Despite the lingering pain of war, the city conveys a warm message of hope for peace. My first stop was the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome. The preserved Atomic Bomb Dome silently reveals the horrors of war, while the Peace Memorial Museum displays records and artifacts from that time, leaving a heavy feeling in my heart. However, the colorful paper cranes and the Peace Bell scattered throughout the park embody the wishes of people hoping that such tragedies will never be repeated. Next, I took a ferry to Miyajima. The iconic red torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine, seemingly floating on the sea, was truly breathtaking. The scenery changes dramatically with the tides, and the peaceful atmosphere was enhanced by deer freely roaming around the shrine. I also indulged in Hiroshima's culinary delights. Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, layered and cooked on a hot plate, was hearty and flavorful, while the seasonal Hiroshima oysters were fresh and delicate, leaving me thoroughly satisfied. Finally, I visited Hiroshima Castle. Although the structure was rebuilt after the war, its serene surroundings were captivating. The exhibits inside provided deeper insights into Hiroshima's history and culture. Hiroshima is a city that remembers the past while spreading a message of peace. It’s a destination where you can enjoy nature, tradition, and cuisine, offering more than just sightseeing—a truly special journey that stays in your heart for a long time.
