Hiroshima: A Journey of History and Peace

Hiroshima left the deepest impression on me during my trip to Japan. It is a place that carries the pain of war while delivering a message of peace, making the journey more than just sightseeing—it became a meaningful experience. I first visited the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome. The Atomic Bomb Dome, left at the hypocenter, spoke volumes about the tragedy of war on its own. The Peace Memorial Museum displayed records and artifacts from that time, leaving me feeling heavy-hearted and solemn. However, the countless paper cranes and the Bell of Peace in the park conveyed warm emotions of hope and a wish for peace. Next, I took a ferry to Miyajima. The red torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine, seemingly floating on the sea, was truly a spectacular sight. The scenery changed dramatically with the tides, offering two distinct charms. The freely roaming deer in the area were also quite memorable. Hiroshima's cuisine was special as well. The layered Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki was hearty and flavorful, while the fresh Hiroshima oysters were mild and tender—a must-try delicacy. Lastly, I visited Hiroshima Castle. Although the building was reconstructed after the war, walking around its serene surroundings was peaceful. The exhibits inside the castle provided insights into another aspect of Hiroshima's history and culture. Hiroshima is a city that remembers its past wounds while speaking of peace. It is also a destination where you can enjoy nature, tradition, and gastronomy. It was a journey that left a profound and lasting impression on my heart.
