Aewol Wangseobang

Aewol Wangseobang, a Chinese restaurant in Jeju known for its delicious Jajangmyeon and sweet and sour pork, is located on the west side of Jeju Island. Specifically, it can be found across from Gueom Elementary School on Ilju Road in Gueom-ri, Aewol-eup, Jeju City. The restaurant operates from 11:00 AM to 7:15 PM, except on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. While there is no designated parking lot, visitors can park along the roadside near the restaurant. Recommended by Jeju locals, Aewol Wangseobang is situated down a small alley (Ollegil) visible in the photo above. The restaurant offers both dine-in and takeout options, and its popularity is evident from the steady stream of takeout customers. As you walk down the alley to reach Aewol Wangseobang, you'll find outdoor tables that can accommodate several people. Even during early hours, the restaurant's interior is bustling with diners. The outdoor tables are equipped with sunshades, and there are swing chairs, making it a great spot for families with children on sunny days. The menu includes a variety of dishes commonly found at Chinese restaurants in Jeju, such as Jajangmyeon, Gan Jajang, Jjamppong, Udon, Ulmyeon, Gan Jjamppong, Fried Rice, Jajang Rice, Japchae Rice, Omurice, Seafood Jjamppong Rice, Seafood Fried Rice, Fried Dumplings, Japchae, Jjamppong as a side dish, Chili Kanpung Pork, Sweet and Sour Pork, Palbochae, and Yangjangpi. The restaurant's signature dishes are Wangseobang Jajangmyeon and Jjamppong, which come in mild and spicy versions. Even the mild version has a hint of spiciness, making it a good choice for those who enjoy spicy food. On the day of my visit, my companion ordered Gan Jajang, while I opted for the mild Wangseobang Jajangmyeon and a mini sweet and sour pork for lunch. The Wangseobang Jajangmyeon, despite being labeled as mild, had a slightly spicy aroma. From the first bite of the Jajang sauce, it was clear why this place is considered a top Jajangmyeon spot in Jeju. The flavor was well-balanced—not overly salty or overpowering—making it enjoyable for anyone. The sweet and sour pork was just as impressive as the Jajangmyeon. Initially, I didn't have high expectations, but the dish turned out to be exceptional. It had more chicken than batter, and the sauce was sweet without being overly strong, making it one of the best Chinese dishes I've had recently. The mini sweet and sour pork costs 11,000 KRW, and the portion size is generous enough for two people. Observing other tables, many diners were enjoying Jjamppong and Japchae Rice, and the constant flow of takeout customers further highlighted the restaurant's popularity. Aewol Wangseobang is definitely a place I'd like to revisit.
