Very historical and charming ryokan but most things are dated. The services are very good and the onsen can be better as the outdoor onsen is rather small.

Full of history. Staff is very personable and helpful. The meals are not only delicious but also work of art. Enjoyed the sulphuric onsen. Not many eating places are opened nearby when we were there. Good to book accommodation with meals.

Even though we called the hotel stating that we would be late for the check-in and dinner as there was heavy snow in the highway. The staff postponed it to 730. However, the snow was so heavy, we lost our way in town and we arrived at 8:10. The staff saying that we were too late and rejected to provide any food for us. we had to walk downhill to the town to find our own dinner. however, on the second night of our stay, we noticed that the other guests were having dinner at 9:10 when we passed by the restaurant. We know that we were late, but I believed that hotel is in the hospitality industry, the staff have to be considerate to the guests. as we were not meant to be late on purpose, just because of the bad weather outside, we couldn’t drive fast. We were in the highway 2 1/2 hours without any food and drink in the hope of arriving on time.

Over sold of the resort appeal.carpark far from hotel. The room is not up to standard. Very difficult to access. Although the meal presented well. A lot are vegetarian nothings solid. Felt paid too much for a normal accommodation. Would not recommend to any season travellers. The onsen is good but the facilities are very basic. There are no towel at facilities. Everything need to tobe brought from the room.

The hotel greeted attentive, the staff of various departments were very polite, attentive, detailed explanation of the place, meals, location, very friendly. The hot spring water was great, the Japanese breakfast, the dinner was better than I imagined, and even my husband accepted it and ate it all. Although walking more stairs, walking a few more times to accept, adapt to walking, but the shoes are too big, my feet are small, Traditional Japanese-style hotel, very characteristic, but the elderly really have to consider walking the stairs, full of nostalgic mood, as if substituted into the Japanese theater scene sense. A fly in the ointment, I have small feet and no suitable shoes at checkout, and very warmly thanked.

After checking in, the staff took us to introduce the hotel. You can see the hot spring or the entrance of the hot spring in the hotel. It is 300 years old. There is a hot spring next to it. When we went there at night, there was no one there. I felt that the place to wash and undress was a bit cold. After the bath, you can drink some beer, drinks and snacks here. Walk to the second floor to another hot spring in the hotel. The meal in the evening was not bad.

The four of us arrived at around 9am and followed the instructions to get a taxi. We first walked up the stone steps to the hotel to check in. We had three pieces of luggage weighing about 15kg, so two middle-aged waiters carried our luggage for us. One of them even carried two pieces of luggage in both hands at once and walked up the stairs, which made me feel very embarrassed. I have great respect for their dedication, but it is so heavy that it will cause strain on the wrists and shoulders and affect bone health. Why not do it in two batches? We returned to the hotel at 2:30 pm. The room was ready and someone led us into the room and introduced everything to us along the way. There is one bedroom, one living room, two toilets and one bathroom. It is spacious and fully equipped. Except for the need to plug in the socket for poor electricity, we were given a floor mat in the living room at night. The bed and floor mat were comfortable and I slept well. This is a very Japanese style hotel, well worth a try if you haven't tried it. We booked a package with breakfast and dinner. The dinner was all-Japanese, but I don't know what the cuisine was called. The service and food were good, and the tableware and dishes on the table were also unique. If you haven't tried it, it's worth a try. The breakfast is still Japanese style, average (see Figure 4). There is also a 24-hour free semi-open-air bath. If you book a private bath, it costs 2,700 yen for 50 minutes, and the last time is 22:00. There is a hiking trail next to the hotel. If you stay for two or three days, you will be surrounded by intoxicating mountain views and natural environment. In summary, it was a good experience. If I go to Zao again, I will still choose to stay at Takamiya, which has historical value and is well maintained. Attached is the dinner menu.

The hotel staff is very friendly and polite, English communication is OK, the meals are also very exquisite and delicious, there are indoor and outdoor hot springs, it is very comfortable to soak in, although the overall equipment of the hotel is a little old, but it is very clean, you will not feel uncomfortable living here, but there is a Japanese nostalgic atmosphere, there is 2 hours of Asahi self-service in the evening, the room is comfortable, and it is very dreamy to see the snow outside the window when you get up; when you check out, they will also help you to be taken to the bus station, which is very convenient.

The room I stayed in must have been empty for a long time 😂There were spider webs on the ceiling😂😂The service attitude was very good, but the room I stayed in was expensive and old, and it was dripping

We drove there and could already smell the strong smell of sulfur when we passed Zao Onsen Street. We reached the hotel parking lot at the end. After parking the car, we had to walk up more than a dozen stairs. The hotel staff considerately came forward to help with the luggage. We stayed in a room with a semi-open-air hot spring. The lower floor is the living room and the upper floor is the bedroom. The room was very spacious, comfortable and clean. The meals were delicious and the hot spring was great. Those who like hot springs will not be disappointed. Great!

The hotel has a pick-up service. The staff is very nice and proactive in helping with luggage. It is clean and tidy. There are private and 2 public hot springs.

It is a hotel with quite a history, although there are ten steps before entering the hotel door, however if you take the shuttle then there should be staff to help you carry (I did not sit), checkout employees to help carry luggage, there Cars you go to the station, but actually walking past the station is not very far, to see the tree ice is not afraid of far, anyway, I walked slowly did not pay attention to the time, watching the snow soon. The hotel staff were very enthusiastic and the service was good and the food was quite good. However the room will be a bit cold recommend going in winter to prepare some warm packs.

Clean and tidy, the room is not small, there is a big bath on the 16th floor, the location is also good, convenient for travel, back to the hotel at night, there is piano performance and snacks in the breakfast area, not far from the hotel, the Zhengle Temple, the red maple there is so beautiful, the overall stay experience is very pleasant 👍

Take a bus from Yamagata Station (one bus every hour) to Zao. Check the schedule in advance! The bus takes about 50 minutes to arrive. Get off the bus and walk uphill to the hotel for 5 minutes. The staff are very warm and welcoming! There are staff who can speak Chinese, so there is basically no need to worry about checking in! There are two hot springs that are said to be the exclusive source of the hot springs with a history of 300 years~ It is very comfortable to soak in. However, the hotel facilities are relatively old. . Dinner and breakfast are both delicious. It is recommended to pack it!
