"The sea view room was great, very clean and tidy, beautiful and comfortable, private outdoor spring in the room, excellent for staying in the room. However, the meals were very disappointed that were unexpected to cost about US$600 for a night including dinner and breakfast for 2 adults and a kid. In particular, the foods for my kid were unacceptable for this price. The restaurant was not clean and the staff were not attentive. We booked the room through Trip.com and mentioned we have a 9 years old kid with us. The staff said they have no such record and required me to prove. Luckily I have the booking record in my App and showed them we did. Then, they said it should be the problem from Trip.com. And then, they said ok and would cost 25000 yen extra for my kid. I accepted, and then they said they could not provide an extra bed for my kid and reduced the cost to 20000 yen, and I also accepted. As a customer, I felt this was not attentive and not polite to request me to prove I had mentioned a kid for the booking. That’s all fine, but the quality and taste for the meals were really unacceptable at this price range, the breakfast was horrible. At last, my case wasn’t a communication problem because the staff who talked to us wasn’t a Japanese and was a native English speaker. Anyhow, the facilities and the room of this hotel were excellent, but the meals and services were not worth for this price."

"We stay in 4 people Japanese style ocean view. The room is too old and small, stains on wall and closet door. The bed is thinner than expected. Buffet breakfast has not much choice, swimming pools and many other things have to pay extra. All staff are nice except one guy in the game room area is very rude! Outdoor hot spring have many insects and have to walk stairs . Overall the stay is unpleasant."

The hotel staff is also very nice, especially there are two Chinese ladies on duty at night, which makes communication very convenient; although the hot spring is a little old, the experience is also very good and it is very comfortable after soaking. The hotel will rotate the male and female baths every day, so be careful not to go to the wrong place; the breakfast is very good, standard and exquisite Japanese breakfast, seafood rice and grilled salmon are of great quality, and I am very satisfied with the food every day; there are also free sand digging tools, flip-flops, and towels at the entrance of the hotel lobby, which is very convenient to go to the beach; the best thing is that there is a self-service coin-operated washing machine, which only costs 500 yen. The clothes that the baby goes to the sea are washed and dried without having to carry dirty clothes for the next trip, which is very convenient! The disadvantage is that there are no bath towels in the hot spring bathhouse, and you need to bring them from the room yourself. I stayed for 2 days and went back to the room every day to get towels, which is very inconvenient. There are also no large bottles of shampoo, shower gel and conditioner in the room. There are only two simple small bags full of Japanese words, which are not enough. It is not very friendly to guests who take a bath in the room."

"We are self driving from JR Wakayama to Shirahama about 2 hours, nice place and good location because can see the sunshine with nice beach view. The onsen is super nice view face to the beach/sea and peaceful. Hotel breakfast is very delicious with traditional Japan and Western style , there is alot of choice too. The staff is helpful to carry on our bag and luggage. The hotel reception have a convenient shop for us to buy the souvenir. I will be back again, thank you!"

"Grampus Shirahama A modest hotel right near the ocean. The room was clean, but the air conditioning was all dirty. I wouldn’t want to stay here in summer. The breakfast was nearly the same as in every other hotel in Japan, though the grilled fish was a bit stale. The dining room has a wonderful view over the ocean. The staff almost didn’t speak English but tried to help anyways. Plus: the hotel has its own onsen. Minus: no bathroom in the rooms, only toilets on the floor, no shower."

"The seaside room is very large, clean and comfortable, with an open-air footbath. Although the bath is not too big, the environment is comfortable. The resting area is large, with a library, massage machine, etc. There are free drinks, alcohol, soda and coffee in the lobby and rest room. The food in the restaurant is rich and delicious. I booked breakfast and dinner, both in buffet style. You can cook your own fish for breakfast and steam seafood for dinner."

Almost all the staff are foreigners, but they all work hard and can speak and understand Japanese almost normally, so there was no problem because they were foreigners. However, the curtain in the large public bath is still dirty, and I was surprised that it had been dirty for five weeks and had not been washed, probably because the hotel's executives were not on patrol. The carpet on the floor was also dirty and worn, and this is because it was left to deteriorate over time, but it is a state that cannot be found in a first-class hotel, and it is a shame that they have foreign staff who work hard. *This may be the same everywhere, but this time I encountered a male staff member slacking off again. When I went to the large public bath at 9 o'clock after breakfast, a male staff member was sitting on a chair and playing. When they saw me, they would hurriedly clean up, but last week, a staff member got naked, took his smartphone and went to the open-air bath and talked while bathing, so it seems that male staff members have a habit of slacking off. *There are sauna mats provided, but after checking in I went to the large public bath early to use the sauna, and found a large number of used mats there. They were still there in the same state in the morning, and I thought they probably hadn't been properly washed, so I didn't use the sauna. It seems that executives should be patrolling the area."
