Not very clean. No friendly atmosphere. The guy on the desk was rude. The cleaner was the friendly one would not recommend this place it’s horrible carpet was so ruffled and dirty the place could do with a mayor clean up this is not worth the money. Avoid at any cost. The bath was gross was an insult to have that in the bathroom

The Bruce needs a face lift but served our purpose well. The gent on reception was welcoming and kindly upgraded our room - no offer to help with bags (we are in our 70's. Although a bit tired our room served us well, the only concern was the old school coil spring mattress... you could feel the springs, however we slept OK. The breakfast room was comfortable and the breakfast satisfactory - good service from the young man who was taking orders and serving.

Very poor standard of hotel. The male at reception was not very welcoming. No help offered with bags to second floor as there is no lift. There was not a soul in the bar on the Saturday night. The mattress was lumpy and made for a very uncomfortable night. The room was a good size but very tired looking and not sure why it had a leather sofa in it. The bathroom didn't look particularly clean with blue stain in the bath. The lock on the door was not the most secure which didn't make us feel safe. Breakfast was okay. Decent coffee and toast and choice of cereals. My partner got a cooked breakfast which was good. I opted for the porridge which hadn't been cooked properly. I feel sorry for foreign tourists looking for a flavour of Scotland. They wont experience it here. The whole place needs revamped.

Probably the most threadbare unloved room I have stayed in in years, filthy windows, dirty bath and a breakfast of uncooked cheap porridge, literally inedible and a veg breakfast that came with half the ingredients cold on the plate. one star for the staff!

A one night stay and it was perfectly acceptable for the price. It’s an old hotel so there are signs of that here and there but the decor is generally good and room clean and comfy. Welcome from the guy on reception was excellent including several recommendations for where to eat given the the hotel’s restaurant is temporarily closed. Top quality cooked breakfast was value at a tenner per head. The water pressure from the shower was painfully poor but that’s a minor quibble - overall, value for money and would stay again. Incidentally, we went to the Crown Bar nearby for food and it was excellent.

With a group on a driving trip in the UK, we had a scheduled stop on roto Cairnryan. I must say it was the fastest check in I've ever experienced. The decor while dated has everything you needed, spacious rooms and clean. We had dinner booked in the hotel down the street. Breakfast was beautiful including the hagus served by a pleasant and helpful young chap. Secure parking through the arch at the rear. Enjoyed the quiet, quaint serenity of Newton Stewart for one night before hitting the road in the morning.

You get what you pay for. Basic accommodation, bed and breakfast. Satisfactory. No frills. Rooms and general areas tired. Shower dribbles out like an old man taking a leak. Door lock was dodgy and could have been pushed in with moderate force. Having said that. Owner friendly, no issues. On a budget definitely stay here.

Let me start by saying this was a last minute booking. The hotel we were going to stay at had a broken boiler. There weren’t many people staying. The rooms were tired. Money definitely needn’t spending on whole hotel. Rooms were clean. Breakfast was excellent. Hence the score of 2. We had a lovely meal at the pub next door. We came back to watch the rugby. Just two people including the manager, in the bar. The manager became rude about the English, generally. Not pleasant to listen to. It’s a no from me.

We stayed over Bank holiday weekend and were very happy with everything. The staff is just fabulous, met all our needs and was very helpful. Delicious, hearty breakfast, clean rooms. Ideal for a weekend break, or for the base to explore the Galloway forest park. Room was very clean, the bed comfortable. Hoping to go back some day.

Perfect location for visiting Kitchen Coos and Ewes. Free parking, friendly staff. Yes it could do with some money spent on the rooms but the beds were comfortable and we all slept really well. Highlight was the gorgeous Scottish breakfast, all delicious and again staff were so friendly. I would definitely stay again if I am in the area.

We stayed here for just one night with our two dogs as a stopover to break up a long journey. It isn't a luxury hotel, but was absolutely perfect for us. The room was spacious and, whilst it probably requires some updating at some point, it was perfectly adequate for our needs with tea/coffee, tv, comfy beds and ensuite bathroom. Everything was very clean. What made our stay was the host, who was friendly and welcoming and gave us local info if we needed it. Breakfast was great, and really tasty. I hadn't mentioned when booking that I was vegan as it's not a big deal for me to go without butter, milk etc. for breakfast, but had I asked beforehand they would happily have catered for this (and there are supermarkets just down the road if you need them!) We will absolutely stay here again if we're in the area.

Very welcoming and friendly service to a lone bedraggled cyclist provided by the manager Callum. A genuine and honest establishment. Breakfast fine and the rooms clean with good beds. Helpful with recommendations and storage of bicycle.
