A reminder of the past and some mates I think about every day regardless, without this reminder. After 2021/2 in Melbourne we tend to say another... It is what it is.
I didn't mind losing a bit of sleep because some other people are hurting a bit more than me... or at least not coping as well.
Call me a cop though and I prefer to sleep out in the park.
I hope I was able to help in some small way just by sitting amongst it.
These places are part of infrastructure and very necessary. The only party to offer much tend to be those who want the real estate and assets.

Booked a solo room bc I know how loud dorms can be. Didn’t make a difference — could hear people talking in the halls, moving furniture and slamming doors all night long.
Window to the street didn’t close - on a 2degree winter night with roadworks outside this was a nightmare. Didn’t sleep a wink.
Minimal security - walk up with no scan cards or codes in/out.
Apathetic staff who don’t seem to know what they’re doing.
Stay somewhere else! There’s much nicer backpackers out there.

Location (5): in the free tram zone, it's easy to go around the CBD
Service and amenities (2): no free wifi, no AC, mess and noisy even though 1AM. it's a dormitory, so you can't desire more.
Cleanliness (2): The bed sheets are very old, but the bedroom is clean, and the shared zones are of course dirty.

It’s disgusting. Showers didn’t have any soap and even I had to pay for a towel.

1. The location is very good, very close to the famous Victoria Market, and opposite is Victoria Market, you can go to eat seafood at 6 am.
2. It is not far from the SKYBUS boarding point, about 500 meters walk, two tram stops, and then walk 500 meters to arrive. Melbourne's trams are free and very convenient to ride.
3. It is about 2 tram stops away from the city center, not far from the University of Melbourne and the National Library. There is a supermarket 200 meters away, and there are Asian supermarkets and restaurants downstairs, so eating is not a problem. It is not far from Chinatown.
4. The youth hostel is upstairs, and you have to carry your suitcase upstairs. The front desk is Chinese, and the communication is very smooth.
5. The kitchen is on the second floor, there are not many bowls and knives and forks, but there are many pots, boiling pots, and frying pots.
6. The room hygiene is average. I live in an 8-person female room, which has a urine smell. The flight of the companions who came to play together was one day earlier than mine, so I didn't book an extra hotel. I just made do with one night and left in time for the flight. It's OK for one night. If you stay for a long time, you should jump to a better bed.
7. There is a 50-year-old man in our room, who is very brave.
8. When cooking in the kitchen, it seems that everyone eats very simple food, whether Chinese or foreign, they all eat instant noodles. Only I bought shrimp and salmon to cook. There is an Indian who makes curry chicken. There is free hot water in the kitchen.

Booked online, the staff all speak Chinese, the service environment is close to the bus station. There is a kitchen and ice room for free use. I often stay here. The staff speaks Chinese

I was in a hurry to find a place to stay, and I booked it because it was cheap, but the room was dirty and the bed hadn't been made.
There were a lot of suspicious old people there, so I ended up booking a different room to ensure my safety. I don't recommend sharing a room.

I think the facilities are worth the price.
There were two outlets next to the bed, but one of them couldn't fit because of the width of the bed rail and the size of the plug.
I paid $6 for towels when I checked in, and got $5 back when I checked out.
