Location is alright, there’s occasional cockroaches running past you when you are in the room, cleanliness has a lot to improve on. Worst part is that I booked a single room and was given a room next to the elevator with a window without curtain, anyone tall enough would be able to look into my room and everything in it, to add on to that, the room was next to the elevator and you can hear every footstep and noise/chat coming from the corridor, and when the elevator moves, there’s this super unnecessary music that runs with it so you would get a sense of that throughout the day and night. When I went to the receptionist to ask for a different room, she told me there’s no other rooms available and I have to pay an extra 1500 rupee to upgrade to a different room, that amount, adding with the original I paid for- would already be much higher than a standard deluxe room. Obviously she and the hotel was trying to scam me by leveraging on giving a super lousy room at first. Even though they eventually agreed to change room for me at no charge, I was honestly traumatised by this hotel and was uncomfortable through the stay. Then at check-out in the next morning, the guy was reluctant to let me go asking if I had already paid and making calls to confirm about it. Overall there’s surely better rooms for similar price in Thamel, so do try to skip this hotel unless you like some good memorable reasons to spoil your trip.

Stayed at this hotel for a week and it was okay . First day they gave me a very small room far from what I had paid for . The next morning the receptionist decided to move me to the room that matched what I paid for . The location is good , close to the tourist area. At night it’s loud outside but then it’s something you can work with . They have a rooftop restaurant with delicious dishes . I enjoyed the food throughout my stay. If I ever come back again , I will book this hotel again .

I didn't realise the hotel location is so fantastic. Near Asan Bazaar, Kathmandu Durbar Square and in the heart of Thamel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room reasonably clean. If I ever return to Kathmandu, I will stay in Hotel de Universal again. Thank you so much for the great service.

The hotel services are incredible,the hotel workers are so nice and very respectful…my favorite spot was the rooftop restaurant and bar,very good for chilling

The location is perfect, right at the heart of the city. The view is great, too. The staff are amazing: Bibek informed me about everything I asked, from means of transport to some specialties. I didn't have a kettle in the room, and he got me one. The breakfast was nice, although served only starting from 11 am (which is a bit late to my taste). The biggest issue is hot water that is warm, but i guess that's the case pretty much everywhere in Nepal. There's an AC, a bar of soap, a toothpaste and a toothbrush, a towel, two chairs, but no desk.

Nice room, lots of space, room and light. Of the minuses, I had problems with hot water, there was none... but I washed myself in the evening, maybe that's somehow connected. I used a kettle... It wasn't exactly clean, I must admit, I cleaned up myself. Two free bottles of water, soap, shampoo, Wi-Fi, light. I felt comfortable and convenient there, waking up with the sun shining through the window. I also liked the restaurant on the roof, quite cheap, but delicious, my favorite, of course, is the vegetarian momos, they won me over. In general, I was satisfied with the price and quality. The staff is very nice, smiling, respects their guests, cares and that's great, nice!

Regarding the room, I requested a sunny room in advance, but the superior single room was not sunny, the view from the window was only the back of the building, it was cold, there was no air conditioning, and no hot water. I was very tired on the first day of arrival, so I had a hard night. The next day, I was changed to a large room on the 4th floor facing the square. It was a good room with good sunlight, air conditioning, and a good view. I can't recommend the superior single, but I would give a 5-star rating to a room on the square side. The staff at the inn were also kind and friendly.

Excellent location in the heart of Thamel, very good value for money and magnificent views of the Kathmandu mountains and the city from the roof top. On the other hand, there were two cockroaches in the room, which was relatively clean (but not spotless)

Quiet hotel, they gave me a scare when they told me that I had canceled 2 days with ******* hahaha I made a reservation with trip.com hahaha then everything was sorted out very poor breakfast otherwise quiet

It's located between the downtown area and the local area, so it's easy to go to various places. There is an ashtray in the room, so you can relax and smoke in your room. I think the cost performance is good as there is an elevator, air conditioning, and hot showers. A really convenient hotel.
