"It is best to reach before 6pm when it is still bright as the old town is located uphill and there are different flights of stairs up. You may end up at the wrong inn if you don't take the correct stairs leading up to the main street. It's also best to bring a day pack and no luggages as the terrain makes it difficult to bring luggages up. The lady boss is very helpful and pleasant. She also provides a simple but hearty breakfast of noodles, porridge and sweet buns for guests. Cat lovers will be in for a treat as there are 3 adorable resident cats. The rooms are tastefully decorated and comfortable, with both heating and air conditioning. The only grouse I have is that the shower cubicle had a missing door so water will splash out when showering. (301)"

"Recommend place to stay in Gongtan! The owners are so lovely. Waiting for us at the parking and helo us carry the luggage to the hotel. The hotel is very new and convenient. The room is pretty big and clean. The water supply are extremely good. Everything you need for your stay, they already provided in the room. The location is pretty near from the parking. For the breakfast, it is just only 100 meter from the hotel. There is very niche noodle shop on Shi Ban Lu. I am traveling with the elders. They have difficulty climbing up and down the stairs. For staying here, they can see the view of the river from the room. So they can enjoy staying in the room withing going out. Event hough the hotel is not the river front, but the view from the room is very beautiful. We have a peaceful and fabulous night here."

"A trip to Chongqing is incomplete without a stay at Gongtan Ancient Town's Bashi Inn which is located at the bank of the calm Wujiang River facing the forested mountain. The Inn is conveniently situated opposite the Wujiang Cruise Centre. We had 2 blissful nights and adore the scenic view from our balcony. The room is clean and very comfortable. Our host, Ms Ran Ran, is a very warm and helpful person who had gone the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable. She helped arrange all our transportation needs: arriving from Pengshui and departure from Gongtan."

"Overall it was good..but there were small hiccups where the customer service was unable to locate our booking and our reserved room was given to another guest. So they upgraded us to a suite with 2 bedrooms. The hotel is located at the entrance of the village... The scenery of this ancient village is superb... No regrets visiting this place.."

The room's decor was thoughtful; the ceilings, wooden floors, and soft furnishings created a warm and inviting atmosphere, avoiding a cold and impersonal feel. Before booking, I was worried about the hot water, but after calling the owner to confirm, he turned on the water for me upon arrival, eliminating my concerns. The location and view were also excellent. The owner, a local resident, shared local history, culture, and customs. If you visit Gongtan Ancient Town, this guesthouse offers great value for money."

"First, I arrived at Gongtan at 8 PM. On the way, the landlady called to say that neither she nor her husband were at the guesthouse that day, only her mother was. I told her we had a driver and guide, so it wouldn't be a problem to find it. Later, I learned that cars couldn't drive in, and it was very difficult to find. We carried heavy suitcases down from the top, which was exhausting, as it was all high steps. The GPS wasn't accurate here either. Anyway, we searched for a long time, and it was hot and tiring. Second, when we arrived at the guesthouse, the environment was quite nice at first glance—bright and clean, with a nice view from the balcony. However, I thought the two rooms would be two separate rooms, but it turned out to be one large room separated by a glass partition with a bathroom. The soundproofing was terrible; the sound of people using the toilet was very clear, which was embarrassing. When I went to sleep, I found many small black bugs on the bed, the headboard felt quite dirty, and the blanket on the bed felt dirty and fuzzy. The faucet on the sink was loose, and the basin was too small, so water splashed everywhere when I washed my face. Third, I arrived very late at night and hadn't had dinner. I asked the auntie if there were any places to eat nearby, but she said she didn't know. I wandered around aimlessly for a while, and finally saw a bunch of tables next door by the river that looked like a restaurant. I climbed up to check, and sure enough, the place next to my room was a restaurant. I was a bit speechless. I left at eight in the morning, and there was nothing there—no breakfast or anything like that I'd seen in the comments. In short, the only advantage was the environment outside the balcony."

"The hotel facilities, cleanliness, and service were all excellent, and there's an elevator. The owner and staff provided great service too! The breakfast offered was delicious. Most importantly, the scenery was absolutely stunning! The only downside is that the location is a bit far from the old town, and it's not easy to find a taxi there. Luckily, the owner offers a pick-up/drop-off service, which is paid but reasonably priced. If you stay in the old town, you'd have to walk quite a distance with your luggage and climb stairs. Overall, I recommend this for travelers who want to see the old town's night view but don't want to forgo modern amenities."
