"It is best to reach before 6pm when it is still bright as the old town is located uphill and there are different flights of stairs up. You may end up at the wrong inn if you don't take the correct stairs leading up to the main street. It's also best to bring a day pack and no luggages as the terrain makes it difficult to bring luggages up. The lady boss is very helpful and pleasant. She also provides a simple but hearty breakfast of noodles, porridge and sweet buns for guests. Cat lovers will be in for a treat as there are 3 adorable resident cats. The rooms are tastefully decorated and comfortable, with both heating and air conditioning. The only grouse I have is that the shower cubicle had a missing door so water will splash out when showering. (301)"

"If you’re traveling to Gongtan ancient town, I highly recommend this hotel! It is located right in front of the pier and looks exactly like the pictures. Sparkling clean, spacious room and very new. The host was very nice and they picked us up at the location where they drop you off if you take the shuttle bus from the Pengshuixi station. They also provided free drop-off too, to the same place they picked us up. The view was insanely beautiful and while there are lots of stairs, the host helped us bring our luggages to our room. I chose this hotel out of the other ones because it’s a divided bathroom and looked clean and new. The hotel also has a restaurant upstairs which serve delicious food that’s not too oily or spicy. Overall, highly recommended"

The location is pretty near from the parking. For the breakfast, it is just only 100 meter from the hotel. There is very niche noodle shop on Shi Ban Lu.
I am traveling with the elders. They have difficulty climbing up and down the stairs. For staying here, they can see the view of the river from the room. So they can enjoy staying in the room withing going out.
Event hough the hotel is not the river front, but the view from the room is very beautiful. We have a peaceful and fabulous night here."

__WeChat289228****First, I arrived at Gongtan at 8 PM. On the way, the landlady called to say that neither she nor her husband were at the guesthouse that day, only her mother was. I told her we had a driver and guide, so it wouldn't be a problem to find it. Later, I learned that cars couldn't drive in, and it was very difficult to find. We carried heavy suitcases down from the top, which was exhausting, as it was all high steps. The GPS wasn't accurate here either. Anyway, we searched for a long time, and it was hot and tiring.
Second, when we arrived at the guesthouse, the environment was quite nice at first glance—bright and clean, with a nice view from the balcony. However, I thought the two rooms would be two separate rooms, but it turned out to be one large room separated by a glass partition with a bathroom. The soundproofing was terrible; the sound of people using the toilet was very clear, which was embarrassing. When I went to sleep, I found many small black bugs on the bed, the headboard felt quite dirty, and the blanket on the bed felt dirty and fuzzy. The faucet on the sink was loose, and the basin was too small, so water splashed everywhere when I washed my face.
Third, I arrived very late at night and hadn't had dinner. I asked the auntie if there were any places to eat nearby, but she said she didn't know. I wandered around aimlessly for a while, and finally saw a bunch of tables next door by the river that looked like a restaurant. I climbed up to check, and sure enough, the place next to my room was a restaurant. I was a bit speechless. I left at eight in the morning, and there was nothing there—no breakfast or anything like that I'd seen in the comments.
In short, the only advantage was the environment outside the balcony.

Because we were traveling with 5 elderly people, I was very selective when booking the B&B in Gongtan Ancient Town. After seeing the introduction and pictures of the inn, I thought the hardware (separate wet and dry areas in the toilet and bathroom, shower with heater) was good. I also read everyone's comments saying that the service was also very good, so I finally decided to choose Xirongxuan. However, all the unpleasantness started from the second call to the boss. We arrived at the parking lot around 5 o'clock after visiting the Three Natural Bridges and the Ground Crack. Our chartered car driver asked me to contact the boss to pick us up. According to previous experience, when entering the ancient town, the boss or staff would usually come out to pick us up. However, when I called the boss for the first time, the boss specified that we get off at the north gate parking lot and let us take the scenic area's sightseeing bus to the homestay (2 yuan per person). Okay, no problem, we came in by ourselves. However, there were only cars but no drivers in the parking lot. I looked around but didn't see anyone. I had no choice but to call the boss again. At this time, the boss still emphasized that I should find a driver. When I said there was no one, he reluctantly said, ”Then I'll pick you up.” After waiting for a few minutes, the boss finally showed up. Knowing that there were six of us, he drove a small car that could only seat four at most, including the luggage. I said that some of us could wait for him in the parking lot and asked him to pick us up again. The boss's answer was, ”The other two of you can walk in by yourselves. It's only a few hundred meters away.” Oh my God, he asked us to find it by ourselves in an ancient town we had never been to, not to mention how tired we were after climbing the mountain for a whole day. After my repeated requests, the boss said that he would pick me up again, but I had to wait (I later learned that because it was a one-way street, he had to go around in a circle, so he was unwilling to do so). I brought three elders and followed the boss to the B&B first. The boss dropped us off at the bottom of the B&B. Only then did I realize that it was a long and steep flight of steps to get to the B&B. I didn’t see anyone else coming to pick us up, so I carried a big bag and a 20-inch suitcase on my back. The three elders followed me and we began to climb up. After climbing a few steps, I looked up and saw a woman in pajamas looking at us at the door of the B&B. I thought it was another guest. She kept watching us climb up. When there were only a few steps left, she suddenly ran over and said, ”Let me help you.” It turned out to be the proprietress. There were only a few steps left. You pretended to come over to help us with our luggage. What were you doing before? The proprietress said arrogantly that she was not in good health. Is poor health a reason for you to treat guests like this? It's really ridiculous. Or if you said sorry when you saw me and said you were not feeling well and couldn't help you, I would have accepted it. The couple really aren't suited to running a B&B, or rather they should hire some helpers. The two of them can only be bosses. The next day after checking out, we had to go to the pier to take a boat and take our luggage with us. The night before, the boss said he would help us book a scenic spot bus to take us. After the pick-up, I would rather spend money to take the scenic spot bus. The next morning the boss said he would give us a ride, but the prerequisite was that two of us had to walk to the dock by ourselves. What's more, from what I observed that night, there were only six of us in three rooms in the entire inn. Then the boss asked me for the phone number of our chartered driver.
