Great hotel with beautiful views. Attractive interior decoration, overall very spacious for a HK Island Hotel. Bathroom of the corner room is huge! Downside was the strong emphasis on Chinese language. Hotel had to send a technician to the room to change the language settings of TV, digital receiver, Netflix, Disney+. Had to converse with the technician through Google Translate as his English speaking skills were minimal. Also no playroom or other kids' facilities but I suppose that's forgiveable as the hotel seems to cater mainly to day trip and business travelers. Recommend the corner room, we had a great stay there! Didn't try the breakfast or other facilities but they all looked fine.
Exit A1 of 西営盤 Station and walk in the right direction to reach the hotel in 2 minutes. The rooms are compact, but that can't be helped as all hotels in Hong Kong are small. You can leave your luggage by the window. Large trunks can be stored under the bed. Breakfast is also good.
The building is old, but it is well cleaned. Shampoo and bath soap are available. They are the same colour, so they may be the same liquid. It is better to bring your own if you are concerned. Conditioner bottles are available but empty. You should prepare this yourself as well.
Above all, it is close to the station and safe.
There are many restaurants around and daily necessities are available, so it is convenient. I will use it again.
Want to start by saying this is the best view from a hotel I’ve ever had—genuinely incredible. The location is fine, about a 15 minute walk to central and 10 minutes from Sheung Wan metro stop. Few nice cafes and bars around too. The room is a decent size (especially for HK) so good value for money. A few things need improving:
1. The drain really smells after the toilets flushed and the shower or sink is used.
2. Bed is quite hard, recommend the mattress topper they provide. Much better.
3. The smoke detector is right above the bed and blinks throughout the night, can be quite annoying so bring an eye mask.
4. The key cards sometimes don’t work in the elevator to go up.
Good value for money though!

The hotel was in a great location, easy MTR access, efficient & can maximize sightseeing time. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The hotel also provide wooden toothbrush and water dispenser to reduce its environmental impact. Keep up the good work!
Simple and affordable hotel in the heart of Hong Kong. Room was nice and modern but certain corners at the windows were a little dirty. Room size is small as you would expect from a cheaper hotel in Hong Kong. Lifts can be a hassle during busy times, only two lifts for 30 floors of guest rooms. Overall a pleasant stay with good front desk service.
The Best Western Plus in San Ying Pun is a favorite of ours and we have stayed here prior to the March 2025 visit, but just getting a chance to finally review. The value for money is very high, but would suggest spending a bit more for a Suite room. The base category rooms are very small. On the most recent visit, we stayed one night on arrive in HK, so we were asleep as soon as we entered the room. If staying longer, however, would definitely suggest a Suite, as they are reasonably priced and offer a good space to sleep and work. Breakfast at the hotel is basically Western style, so probably not suited for Chinese visitors. But this being Hong Kong, there is plenty to eat all around the hotel. Staff were great and are a great asset for the hotel. Always recommend the BWP - great combination of location, value for money and friendly folks!
The first room wasn't clean but we noticed it and we were moved to another one far better very clean with a nice view. Breakfast is in a partner coffee and was very tasty. Regarding the room you have all the commodities you need. Thanks to the staff and the ownerwho were very efficient. Thanks again.
Had a wonderful time at the Putman. There are a lot of restaurants in the vicinity although the hotel itself is not easy to locate because it does not have a big sign at the door. There was no one at the reception - had to buzz the bell several times to get in, which is a little inconvenient. Cathy at check-in was great though and gave me a detailed room tour. I requested extra pillows and duvets and towels - everything was there. The room is spacious and bright will full-length windows, a kitchen, a huge bathtub, rain shower, coffee machine, blinds and lights that are remote-controlled (would appreciate a bedside control panel rather than wall control panel). Some windows that can open (a little) etc. The only problems were that the knobs in the tub and shower are quite slippery and thus hard to get a hold of when wet; would also appreciate it if the bathroom and toilet doors aren't made of glass (for added privacy). Also, there was not enough shower gel in the bottles. Unfortunately, we only spent a night there and had no chance to cook. Overall, had a great time.
Good location, clean room with everything you need. Room is quite compact. The interior design is a bit outdated, but everything function very well.
View was nice, but we did notice them building a new sky scraper just in front of the room. We were on the 23rd floor so it might not reach that high, but future guests might not have thesame bay view we had.
Staff is friendly.
Only downside is that there was no water available in the hotel. Given how hot it can be in Hong Kong and how the tap water is not for consumption, a water cooler in the lobby is a must.

KKeiKeithThe room was clean, with fresh bedding on a comfortable mattress. The bathroom was also clean, with a clean toilet and shower area. Given the reasonable nightly rate, I felt I received good value for my money. A lot of local restaurants nearby.
AAnonymous UserExcellent spot for holiday seekers . Although isolated on top of a peak with no facilities nearby and only accessible by shuttle bus or taxi, this youth hostel nevertheless offers guests and visitors serenity, seaview and the freedom to explore hill paths or sit down to roast barbecue. The place is almost never fully booked and is the cheapest accommodation on HongKong Island by far: Highly recommended for those looking to chill out for a few days from the hustle bustle of city life.
GGuest UserAfter two weeks in mainland China we were disappointed not only by the lack of amenities at the hotel but also the service. Unfortunately the Hong Kong government no longer permits bottles of water - however this still doesn’t mean the hotel couldn’t provide bottles of boxed water or be a little more creative with its solutions.
In the room itself we had two small towels- no additional towels for hand, and no face towels. The shower curtain is material and a little old / gross.
What was most surprising was the service. Checking in at 8pm on a Friday evening we asked for a recommendation for a spot to eat in the area. She assured us multiple times we would find absolutely nothing open except for McDonald’s. For a hotel of this quality we were surprised by the lack of any knowledge whatsoever by the staff, but also a little disgusted by the recommendation.
If you want a better impression of Hong Kong I would advise looking elsewhere.
RRosalyn JackieThe night I visited there was an issue with the neighbors on my floor, in the middle of the night, doors could be heard slamming open and close repeatedly for a couple of times. Drain in the shower and sink was slow to draining causing a strange smell to occur
AAngelinchinaExcellently located, this hotel has recently been renovated and offers modern, clean and fresh rooms at a good rate.
There were no small towels nor toiletries or drinking water, but apparently it’s because of a new rule in HK.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Definitely recommended.
MMilloyoSmall rooms if you travel with big luggage. Cleaning should be immensely improved, bathroom walls are very dirty, room full of dust in shelves and under the bed. Comfortable bed and welcoming staff. I would recommend it if cleaning is improved since location is great. Note that renovation is undergoing so no gym, laundry or breakfast available.
