Hotels in Edinburgh Old Town, Edinburgh

The location is excellent, situated on the Royal Mile near Holyrood Palace. It's about a 15-minute walk to Calton Hill and very convenient for exploring the Old Town. Edinburgh Waverley train station is also just a 15-minute walk from the hotel. The advantage of an apartment hotel is being able to cook your own meals. It comes with an induction hob, microwave, fridge, and dishwasher. Once again, I found myself paying 2,000 RMB a night in the UK for a hotel with polyester bedding. The bed was uneven, one side high and one side low, and I almost fell off. The showerhead in the bathroom was broken; I requested a repair, and it was fixed. However, the sink drainage was very slow. Someone came to address it, but it's still slow, indicating that the bathroom facilities are quite subpar. There's no phone in the room, so I had to use my mobile to call the front desk for anything. Usually, other hotels call to ask if you're extending your stay or checking out that day, but this hotel didn't send any reminders. By the time I realized, it was already 1:15 PM. At checkout, I was charged a £25 late checkout fee, and my pleas were to no avail 😂

This was the most expensive hotel we booked for this trip, but the experience wasn't great. The soundproofing in the room was poor, and the garbage truck dragging along the cobblestone streets downstairs was very noisy early in the morning. The hotel's location is excellent, though, right in the Old Town and close to Holyrood Palace.

All went well from check-in to check-out. A special thank you to Beth from Guest Relations, who made us feel genuinely welcome from the moment we arrived. The aparthotel was in a great central location only a walk away from many attractions such as Holyrood palace, arthur's seat, Edinburgh castle etc. It is off the royal mile. There are restaurants at your door stop such as chef bako where I tried a nice street style burger and fried mars bar. The check in was easy. They provide all the ncessary cutlery, there was some milk, tea, sugar coffeez salt and pepper available in the room. You can have daily room cleaning and can also do own laundry as there was a washing machine in the room. It is quiet and not in a noisey location. Negatives: I would say the set up of the toilet wasn't the best in terms of the radiator was really close to the toilet seat so if you were a larger person, you wouldn't comfortably be able to sit on the toilet seat. There weren't any hooks on the toilet door to hand towels. No shower holders in the shower to put shampoo or soap etc. The headboard rest isn”t needed as shortens the length of the bed so your feet come off the end of the bed. These rests are not detachable. Overall with a few adjustments in the room it would be better but I would stay there again because of the location.

This is a photo I took at my accommodation in Edinburgh. It was only about a one-minute walk from the station, and most of the main tourist attractions were nearby, which made getting around very convenient. The only surprise was that I didn’t realise it was a triple bunk bed when I booked it. I booked it without thinking much about the bed setup, so I was a bit caught off guard. As a result, I hit my head a few times! Other than that, everything was fine. Interestingly, the top bunk (third level) actually looked like the best spot.

Without doubt, this was one of our finest hotel stays in recent memory. From the moment we arrived, Novotel Edinburgh set the tone with a level of warmth and professionalism that genuinely stood out. The staff were incredibly helpful throughout and what really demonstrated this was a small but telling moment: we lost our key card during the stay, and it was replaced immediately, without any fuss or inconvenience whatsoever. It's the kind of effortless service that puts you completely at ease, and it's something you remember long after checkout. The breakfast deserves a special mention — it was simply top notch. The spread was so good that holding back was near impossible, and it's the kind of breakfast that makes you actually look forward to the morning. Freshly prepared, well-stocked, and served with care — it's one of the best hotel breakfasts we've had. The location is outstanding. Sitting just a mile from Edinburgh Castle, you're right in the heart of one of the most iconic cities in the UK. Public transport couldn't be more convenient either  buses are accessible right behind the hotel, making it incredibly easy to get around the city without needing a car at all. The one area that needs addressing is parking. The hotel's own car park is frequently full, which meant we had to use the nearby NCP instead. To the hotel's credit, they did provide a discount for the NCP - a thoughtful gesture that softened the inconvenience. However, it's worth noting for electric vehicle drivers: the EV charging at the NCP is painfully slow, so factor that into your plans if you're arriving in an electric car. A heads-up from the hotel at check-in would go a long way. Parking frustrations aside, Novotel Edinburgh is a brilliant base for exploring the city - exceptional staff, an unmissable breakfast, and a location that's hard to beat. We'd return without hesitation.

The location is fantastic, very central, making it easy to get anywhere. It's surprisingly quiet at night too. There's a lift, so you don't have to lug your luggage, but don't expect any staff to help you with it. The front desk staff seemed more interested in their own conversations and didn't really pay attention to whether you were waiting for them. Service for foreigners is pretty much non-existent. The self-service breakfast was decent and had everything you'd expect.

The room was a bit small for three people, especially with the sofa bed, as there wasn't enough space to open our luggage. However, the hotel's location is excellent, within walking distance of the station. The breakfast is a set menu. The room has air conditioning and an ironing board.

The location of the hotel is invincible (the house in the lower right corner of the second picture). Turn right after exiting the Market Street exit of the train station and walk for one minute. You don’t have to worry about carrying large luggage. When you cross the road, you will see Prince Street Park and Waverley Bridge (where the photo was taken). After crossing the bridge, you will see Prince Street. Turn right and walk for 15 minutes to Calton Hill. Turn right and walk for 3 minutes to the Royal Mile. There are many restaurants along the way. It is very close to the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Castle, and the Art Museum. The staff’s service is very good. When they meet people from non-English speaking countries, they will communicate with guests at a very slow speed. It is also very convenient to store luggage. There is also an airport bus at the door of the hotel.

The hotel is very well located in the heart of the city center. Everything is within walking distance. It's also easily accessible from the airport. The hotel was clean, the bedding comfortable, and the room pleasant. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We were able to get our room early as it was ready, but you can also leave your luggage there for free. We didn't experience any unpleasant odors as mentioned in some reviews, but it's true that the rooms aren't very airy.
