Enjoyed every night here. Complimentary adult beverage at the bar first night stay of the hotel was nice. But the best part was knowing 24 hr beach access right in front of our room was the best decision I ever made. Views were great. Not too far from down town. Definitely would recommend.
We spent 3 nights here.. given we had kids under 12 with us, who were excited about using the pool, we upgraded to a room with direct pool access through our patio. The resort is luxurious and has a lot of open areas... doesnt feel cramped for space, especially being a golf course. Kids loved the free smores kit they got to use by the bonfire. The kids play area with connect4, table tennis, putting etc. was cool too. Ample parking space and you can easily get one spot next to the building your room is in.
The overall price/performance ratio is relatively low, the rooms are relatively old, and the scenery is really not good in the United States. The wind blowing in from the balcony is also a bit unpleasant, and you need to charge dozens of knives to the hotel, including taxes, parking fees, etc.

We just spent the weekend here and the best thing is the location. Great restaurant's within steps of the hotel and just a 5 minute walk to Fisherman's Wharf and a great promenade walk along the ocean that go's forever passing Cannery Row and places to stop for breakfast or just coffee. The hotel was built in 1904 and had great antiques but if we stayed there again, we'd request to be in the new building, the one you see the photo's of more modern furnishings. The older part is old and our bed was awful but we saw that they were replacing all the mattresses wishing they'd replace ours. I think we'd stay there again, but in the new building.
Juliana and Leslie were helpful in setting up future reservation. Two other nice desk people helped during our stay, but didn’t get their names. Like that we get the room we request each time and it is roomy with a couch and close to parking area. Look forward to using some of amenities in the future…restaurant, new jazz club etc. Like the Covid protocols respected….took care of our own room, could ask desk for any additional needs etc. We do question why the clothes hanging area was taken away months ago and replaced with a coffee machine which could easily be kept on the desk area. No place to hang clothes. Like having a microwave and refrigerator in the room. Location great to mall, beach, freeway, Carmel, downtown Monterey downtown area. Prices reasonable and love the wall heater!
This hotel used to be amazing. In the past, I would have paid the premium cost for the service, location, and experience. Now, I just can't say that anymore. I have stayed at the Portola hotel a number of times and the last few times, it just hasn't been that great, yet they still charge the same premium price The hotel is in a great location, which is still a draw, but the experience has become average. I love going to Monterey and this hotel was a reason I would want to come back, but now I find myself looking elsewhere. Portola just doesn't meet the expectations they put forward for the premium price they charge. So if you get a good price on that harbor view room, I would say go for it. Note, you may end up with a partial view looking at the roof of a building across the way, with a partial view of the water. But I would stay here again if the price was right. But if prices are the same as some of the other waterfront hotels, I will likely book elsewhere.
Let's be honest - Monterey Bay is expensive. I want the most bang for my buck and I feel that I get it at Casa Munras. It is definitely my favorite hotel on the peninsula - and I have stayed at many of them, worked at many of them, and lived in all my favorite cities here. Monterey, Carmel, Pacific Grove - this hotel is my favorite one that I can also afford on the regular. I love the Spanish style décor. I absolutely love their beds and pillows - I sleep so good here, and the best part is the location. You can walk out of the hotel, down the street, and you're in downtown, walk a little further and you're on fisherman's wharf. Go up the street and you're at the mall. Go a little further up the street and you have the freeway right there to take you to Carmel or PG or wherever you want to go. However, there are a few negatives to this property: 1. The internet is not fast (especially depending on the building you stay in) and they do not give you the option to pay for upgraded internet. 2. You have to pay for parking - which I believe is $17/night, but I just factor that into the cost of the room when I book. 3. Not all rooms offer a mini fridge, you have to pay for an upgrade to get a room with a fridge. What's that about? All rooms should have this! Everywhere!
The hotel is very clean as a whole, especially the hot water pool is very refreshing. The whole feels like a holiday cabin. Although the gym is very small, it is not bad to have a gantry. The food is a bit shabby, but the sandwiches are ok
Not very get why Americans love to eat cold eggs so much....
The feeling is that the Indians opened the hotel, and the hallway and the room have a scent of Indian oil. We arrived at 2 o'clock in the afternoon and immediately sent us a check in. Parking is free after registering the license plate. Although it is a suite but only a large bed, the hotel is still a bit far from the city. Not good for an extra bed but can sleep alone in the sofa. The breakfast was very simple and there was no meat. Clean and odorless. There is indeed a fireplace available.
Good location, walk 10 minutes to the old fisherman's wharf, there is a Chinese supermarket on the right.
The room structure is reasonable and easy to use, and the bedding and sofa are comfortable.
Cold meals are available at 16:00 in the lobby, ham cheese fruit wine is very good.
No hot food for breakfast and no meat, sorry.
Overall good and worth recommending.
Monterey town is beautiful, there is no parking near the aquarium, 17miles is beautiful, and the coastline of camel town is stunning.
Very Good

GGuest UserThis was a great hotel to stay at the staff were friendly and super helpful. Beautiful views and the perfect location. The only downside was that the wifi did not work, we called the front desk which then transferred our call to an IT department who were not much help we spent our stay without a wifi, not the greatest as a person visiting for the first time especially if you have online business meetings. Everything else was amazing I traveled with a friend and we had a great time as this location has many great places for good food. Will definitely book here again.
GGuest UserThey only got 3 stars for service only because my son had forgot the room number when he went to get pizza it was our first day at that hotel . So he went upfront to get the room number and lady at front desk held him there and finally called my room and she said I couldn’t have anyone there that my booking was for one person which it wasn’t I asked her where my son and car were because now she has held him up so long I’m 25 min late for work she says she wasn’t gonna tell me which I was like wtf ? So I went down there showed her my reservation that had two guests. I told her I had to go I was now late for work and she continued to try to hold me up I told her I would come by in morning after work she proceeds to tell me that she was gonna call cops on me for what I do not know but that my boss had to call in 30 min or she was calling the law . I told her that she was in the wrong not I or my son . My son tells me that she told him that she doesn’t rent to …. Pause looks him up and down and tells him people like u . Still I do not know what she meant by that he is a 21 year old kid he is white and has long hair so I’m not sure what she was referring to by that . What is people like my son white ? Cause he has long hair ? Not too sure but that was bothersome to me she said that .. But what I can say is that the owner or manager he called my son to apologize and told him she went to far it was for security purposes her not telling him what room but she took it too far and he made it right . It was a nice room big and very clean from the outside I they look a lil old but it’s surprisingly newly remodeled and spacious rooms
GGuest UserFriendly staff, solid location, decent WiFi and generally clean and has the basics down. Better for sightseeing than for those staying in, I think.
Quick things to note: they don't allow late checkouts, just fyi, but otherwise you just drop your keys in a box to check out. The vending machines are also located in an open area, which is nice for when I visited but could become an issue if it's raining...
The balconies are really nice, and the location is insanely convenient. It's about 10ish minutes to walk to the aquarium, and it's a block (or half, if you go out the back!) to the waterfront. There's solid food and sightseeing options here too.
They do have a decent parking lot, but there's a ton you can see in Monterey by walking, and this hotel is perfect for a lot of those.
What's missing here: a common dining area and breakfast, for one. Rooms aren't cramped but most furnishing is basic. Don't expect anything fancy, essentially.
All that said, it's a solid choice if you're actually going out and sightseeing vs spending tons of time here. And if you do, they have some pretty nice patios and some rooms have balconies overlooking a trail.
GGuest UserLovely big rooms, there would be enough room for a sofa bed that would of made our stay perfect. The room was clean but there was a horrible smell in the room of wet dog. Breakfast was included with a variety of pancakes, muffins, pastry, fruit, cereals, tea, coffee and fruit juices. Great location for the aquarium and there’s a free bus that will take you to Fisherman’s wharf.
JJIAHAOI have lived in one of the best motels and the room is very plentiful. The light in the room and the toilet are very bright, the shampoo conditioner has everything, and the charging port is enough. Praise
GGuest UserOur vacation flights to Chicago were canceled due to weather conditions and we were unhappy. We decided to have a getaway to Monterey and Carmel. We were lucky to make a last minute booking by *********** at Travelodge. The booking was easy, price was incredibly reasonable and service was excellent. The staff were not only friendly and welcoming, but also made accommodations for my physical disability. We enjoyed our trip and Will definitely go back.
GGuest UserThe airport to the hotel should be the starting price, the Chinese-like driver actually received 25 knives, be careful of fellow villagers, lie to you without discussion. The hotel is a motel, it is clean, and the room assigned to me is not sunny. The waiter did not clean the next day, the room was not soundproof, the bed upstairs creaked, but the guests were more civilized and quiet. At this price, you can stay for two nights. Walk over to the den monte shopping center for fifteen minutes. No breakfast, no place to eat nearby, the hotel is a street.
JJINA typical American motel with a good location, just across the road is Macy's and some restaurants. There is also a drug store CVS, but unfortunately I did not buy a mask. There is a swimming pool and gym in the hotel, but the pool is small and slightly larger than the bathtub. The gym is also very small
陈陈Good location, clean small hotel with ironing board and electric kettle. Motels with good facilities in the United States. The 17miles entrance one or two kilometers away is a lot cheaper than living in Carmel
