Hotels in Amboseli are probably average, and each hotel has few rooms, so it is very difficult to book. The hotel is in a good location, close to Amboseli National Park. The lodge I booked feels better than a tent. The facilities are relatively old, and the sanitary environment is also average, but the service is still OK.

The AA Lodge is Excellently located near the Kimana Gate of Amboselli National Park and that's where the good things end. The rooms need many changes (for the good) The staff need many lessons in service & understanding The icing on the cake in dismal service is taken by the Kitchen Staff and their chef, who insulted our feelings by packing an Egg for a Asian / Pure Vegeterian, ALL AFTER DETAILED EXPLANATION at least 4 times. The Manager was clueless and least bothered.

In brief: 🟢 Very well located (10min from Amboseli Reserve). 🟢 Very nice staff and management. 🟡 Food could be improved. In details: We booked a family room for 4 and when we arrived there was one big bed (200cm) and a medium (120cm) in the room. We asked for an additional matresse because our kids would never have slept together in the smaller bed. The staff kindly fulfilled our request. ✅ As Europeans and frequent travelers, we were surprised that no water was given for meals, but charged extra. Even for breakfast. ❌ (it's not about the price, but the principle) Regarding meals, salads were very good. Fish was ok, meat not that much (hard to chew at times). Potatoes were surprisingly badly cooked (maybe they were boiled and fried, which isn't necessary). The rice was good, the veggies too (special mention for spinach). We didn't try the Indian food, neither the soups. Minute made eggs according to ones liking for breakfast were perfect. Desserts need a serious improvement. I believe for the cakes they use an industrial mix and make variations. Every Cake was dry and lacked flavors and sugar. Chocolat flakes were basically hard chocolate clumps topped with flakes. Creams were horrible. Overall I would qualify the food as cantina grade 😐. I'm sure the chef does it's best and he looks like a good guy, therefore I feel a bit sad about my review. I hope he can use my comments to improve. 🤗

It seems that this property sat a while without maintenance. I don’t know if it was because of low season or if they have a new influx of revenue. They were cleaning up and doing repairs. There were a number of issues. Showers needed some work. The room were ok…Amboseli is dusty so that didn’t bother me. But water gets shut off at night to reduce water being wasted by overflowing solar water heaters, but toilets don’t flush without water. One water in the shower was either hot or cold, not much in between. It was probably more mechanical than anything. The place does need a little work. The staff was great. So no problem there. Food was an issue. It simply wasn’t very good. I guide groups on safari every couple of yeas. I probably not return to AA. I think it will get better, but it certainly isn’t there yet.

If this is 3 stars, I wouldn't want to see 2 or 1! We came from a 5 star resort in Tsavo West. A few of our problems... The door would not lock Safe was already locked- they were changing the batteries... but didn't have any batteries! Could not use it. Beds like a rock, hardest I've ever felt. Couldn't even sleep on your side. Just a mattress and sheet, no pad. Very 1950's decor, and not in a good way. Wicker furniture,  OLD, squeaky. Wanted to have laundry done but no bag or instruction sheet in the room. Went to the office and they sent a guy with a sheet but no bag so I had to send my own bag. It was supposed to be done at 2:00. Husband went up to the office at 4:00 & finally returned after 5:00. "Africa time" runs the same as "island time". At least it all came back. I had no confidence. No door in bathroom, only a flap between the bathroom and the rest of the tent No water one morning Most of the tent flaps ties are torn so you can't open for any breeze Holes in walkway No lighting on walkway to tent Just old and run down Decent landscaping Now the food...YUCK! All buffet. All the meats were tough and grisly. Not hot. Salads were all sour IMO. Not much selection. I guess if you want to be adventurous with eating you might enjoy some of it. Monkeys invading the dining room and stealing food off your plate or right out of your hands. No drinks included, even bottled water they bottle here on property. Desserts were ok... Two choices of cake and a bowl of watermelon and pineapple. Glad we were only here 2 nights.

The workers here are very nice and friendly. Kenyan service and hospitality has been the most generous I have experienced. Thank you for taking care of us! We also watched the masai dances and loved those too. When we had any issues with our stay, they were resolved very quickly! Within the hour.

It was a good trip. 3 days and 2 nights. Not bad. Good beds especially. The meals were ok. The service sublime. Definitely recommend staying with them. Preferably add variety to food like ugali and mukimo on some days. Otherwise it was a good stay

This is the worst place I have ever stayed in and I am a world traveler. In my room, the toilet leaked water all over the bathroom floor and was not attached to the ground. The shower had black mold on the tiles and was very dirty looking. My sheets were dirty and stained and had not been changed from the last person that slept there. There was no-one available at the front desk around 9pm when I went to ask for a different room. There was a nice man that was a chef in the restaurant that helped me to get a new room. In the new room, the sheets and shower were clean and the toilet didn’t leak but the the bed was very hard and uncomfortable. The food was ok but desserts consistently dry and stale. Service was not good in general. This place was part of a safari package- we didn’t choose it ourselves. If you are looking for a clean and comfortable room - DO NOT stay here!!!!

I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived how nice the grounds and rooms are! We'll kept and always clean during our stay. Meals are buffet style with plenty to choose from. Breakfast has an omelet station which was nice. Cheetah lounge is ione through the evening. The poor was super super clean with lounge chairs and towels available and it also has an amazing view of Mount Kilimanjaro. There are enough Birds and vervet monkeys around to keep you busy. Staff was super nice and accommodating.
