The hotel room was spacious and clean. They offered complimentary drinks upon arrival in the afternoon, including free beer! After a relaxing hot spring bath, there were free cold drinks available. The surrounding area is lovely, and it's just a short walk to the attractions. Getting to Takayama Station was also super convenient.
The hotel room is pretty big by Japan standards, and the feeling of the hotel is really grand! Lots of locals were staying there, but the rooms are a little bit dated. The toilet lights were quite dim and the bathrooms could use an update. However, everything worked perfectly and the stay was still extremely enjoyable!
The hotel is situated right next to a bus stop so that makes things super convenient! There’s also a family mart behind the hotel (shortcut! go out of the main door, turn right, walk down the ramp, immediately turn right and right again into the small path, go up the stairs past the hotel park, then turn left and cross the small roads, and you’ll find the konbini) The hotel also rents out bicycles to hotel guests FOC, so you can take the bike literally anywhere! We rode to the supermarket (~10 mins away) and also down by the river (10/10 recommended!) and just explored lots around!
Gifu is a lovely quiet town and we would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to experience a side of Japan that isn’t just Tokyo or Osaka.
Great stay overall, one of their baths was under renovation when I visited, which is a bummer. This is one of the places where the facilities age like fine wine. You can feel that it's dated but extremely well maintained, which I appreciate a lot. Breakfast was also amazing, there were a ton of options. The place is great for families and couples wanting to relax for a night or two.
This hotel fulfilled my desire for a traditional Japanese tatami experience. For a 50-year-old establishment to be so well-maintained, that's probably the highest praise you can give in Japan. It was incredibly clean. Someone came to lay out the futon after 7 PM each night and put it away in the morning. The B1 floor has a hot spring exclusively for hotel guests, while the 1F hot spring is accessible to both guests and outside visitors. The hotel also offers a shuttle bus service to and from the JR main station and several popular sightseeing spots. The only drawback might be that the walk between the JR station and the hotel is about 10 minutes, which can feel much longer on snowy days.
Our room was spacious and presented with a private onsen of which we can use any time at our convenience. Because of that, hardly anyone uses the shared private onsen, though the view there is better than that in our rooms. Also, there was no elevator at the hotel, so we had to carry our luggages up and down the stairs, thankfully the hotel only has 2 levels, and the hotel staff were nice enough to help us carry our luggages up into our rooms.
Free parking is available, which is essential as the hotel is not situated nearby any public transport. But it is within 15 to 30 min drive to nearby attractions.
The hotel was quite strict on the meal times as dinner and breakfast are served at 6pm and 8am sharp respectively. We arrived the hotel late on our first night (around 7pm) and almost missed our dinner (and almost got our room cancelled). We were served hida beef in different cooking style at dinner for both nights of our stay, one steamed and one grilled. Both tasted delicious!
All the staff were very friendly and always wearing a grin on their faces. Overall we had a pleasant stay.
It’s a huge hotel, location is slightly away from the town centre so need a bit of walking over the bridge whenever you go out. Onsen is good, with few choices in each building. Room is huge and bed is comfortable.
Breakfast is average and busy due to the large number of guests. More suited for families rather than solo travelers who prefer a quiet stay. Staff were helpful and professional.
