What Is the Canton Fair?
The Canton Fair, officially called the China Import and Export Fair, is one of China's major international trade exhibitions. It has been held in Guangzhou since 1957.
The fair is jointly hosted by China's Ministry of Commerce and the People's Government of Guangdong Province, with the China Foreign Trade Centre serving as the organizer.
It is held twice a year:

Where Is the Canton Fair Held?
The Canton Fair is held at the:
China Import and Export Fair Complex

The complex is also commonly known as the Canton Fair Complex or Pazhou Complex. It covers around 1.55 million square metres, so checking your exhibition hall before arriving can save a lot of walking time.
The complex is divided into several areas, including Areas A, B, C and D.

Returning Buyers

China Visa Requirements for Filipino Travelers
Filipino travelers using ordinary Philippine passports should check China's current visa requirements before their trip.
For visitors attending the Canton Fair for commercial or trade activities, the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Manila lists the M Visa as the visa category for commercial trade.
The current basic requirements for an M Visa application include:
- Original passport with at least six months of remaining validity
- At least two blank visa pages
- Passport photocopy
- Completed China visa application form
- Recent passport photo
- Invitation letter from a Chinese business partner or trade fair
- Additional supporting documents when required
The official Manila visa information also states that first-time travelers to China may need additional financial or employment documents, such as bank records and proof of employment, business ownership, professional status or study.
China's Manila Visa Application Center now uses an online application process. Applicants complete the form and upload supporting documents online before submitting their passport and required documents after review.

For active kids, there's also a skate park right across from the hotel. As for the adults, I swam in the indoor pool. It wasn't crowded during the National Day holiday, which was very pleasant. Otherwise, the overall stay at InterContinental Hotels GUANGZHOU EXHIBITION CENTER by IHG was fantastic. We were given complimentary white fungus and papaya soup as well as small fruit platters for both nights, and our hotel butler Claire provided extremely attentive service. The hotel breakfast offered a wide variety, and the night views were amazing! The wooden room key was a nice touch.

I especially love that coffee and tea are always available, along with afternoon tea and a light evening dinner, including noodles. These little details make such a big difference, especially when travelling with children.

My husband and i had a great stay at Yitel. Location was perfect, close enough to the canton fair with free hotel bus service to and from the fair. So many shops within the surrounding area which was great including a pharmacy should the need arise. The hotel and the rooms where clean and tidy and had all basic needs. They also provide free laundry self service (washing and drying machines). The service was superb, even when i struggled with ordering dinner on food delivery apps, the staff were always super helpful, especially Lily who was an absolute delight. Not great at all. First off, the peephole in our first room was completely blocked, couldn't open it at all. How is a woman supposed to check who's at the door for delivery? Secondly, there was a constant knocking sound and other noises coming from the air conditioner in that room. We couldn't take it anymore and asked for a room change.
Then, in the new room, the smell of smoke was incredibly strong. Isn't this supposed to be a non-smoking hotel? Why did the entire room reek of smoke? We didn't want to go through another room change, so we just put up with it. The next morning, construction started at 8:00 AM, it was so loud, impossible to sleep.
Despite us having arranged a late check-out until 2:00 PM with the front desk the night before, at 12:30 PM, housekeeping was loudly knocking on our door, asking if anyone was there and wanting to come in to clean. She even used her master key to swipe our door open without even checking if anyone was inside. We shouted that we had a late check-out, but the cleaner just acted like she didn't hear us. 📍Facilities & Hardware
The hotel is indeed very new, and cleanliness was the least of my concerns – it was quite clean. However, the hardware details didn't stand up to scrutiny:
The shower had no overhead rain shower, and the sink faucet was a knob design. After applying hand soap, my hands were too slippery to turn it, which was a terrible experience. Only half of the window opened.
Soundproofing was severely inconsistent. Internal soundproofing was acceptable, but external soundproofing was not. In the middle of the night, I could clearly hear the ”Welcome” voice from vehicles entering downstairs, and in the morning around 8 or 9 AM, I'd be woken up by the sound of gardeners spraying pesticides.
Key card失效: At midnight, my key card couldn't open the self-service laundry room door. I didn't want the hassle, so I had to get it replaced the next day. Ctrip extended my checkout to 3 PM, but by 2:40 PM, my key card no longer worked.
Amenities downgrade: I saw reviews mentioning Evian water, but upon actual check-in, it was Kunlun Mountain. I'm unsure if the promotion was misleading or if it was just us.
📍Dining & Service (High Expectations, Low Fulfillment)
Breakfast was disappointing: On weekends, they stop serving at 10 AM, and by 9:40 AM, empty dishes weren't refilled. It was priced at over 100 RMB per person, but the selection was not rich. The noodle/wonton station had no queue management, with people just grabbing whatever, lacking basic order.
”Consecutive stays enjoy room upgrade (subject to availability).” There was availability, but the front desk never mentioned it or proactively upgraded us, making the offer completely useless.
Minibar/Welcome Amenities: I didn't touch the minibar on the first day, and it wasn't refilled on the second day. Perhaps it's only one set? The so-called ”gourmet snacks and refreshing soft drinks” turned out to be a choice of Coke, Sprite, or beer, and only one item (even for a twin room, and only one item for a two-night stay). I have no idea about the gourmet snacks.
📍Location & Service Responsiveness
It's about a 13-minute walk from the subway station, twice as far as an Atour hotel in a similar price range. Service responsiveness was decent, but proactive service awareness was lacking.
I checked in with high expectations due to the 4.9 ultra-high rating and the price of 1000 RMB for two nights (800+ RMB after government vouchers), but the disappointment was significant. When leaving, I briefly mentioned my feedback, and the service attitude was good, but the 4.9 rating made me choose this hotel over Intercity/Atour/Crystal (though I don't know how good they are), and I'm very disappointed.
My own experience makes me doubt these reviews. If the room rate were in the 400 RMB range, I could tolerate some of these shortcomings; but in the 500+ RMB range, coupled with the 4.9-star filter, these issues shouldn't exist.

I brought my family for a staycation at this hotel during the National Day holiday. A big thank you to Hillary for the warm welcome; all the staff were very nice. Otherwise, the overall stay at InterContinental Hotels GUANGZHOU EXHIBITION CENTER by IHG was fantastic. We were given complimentary white fungus and papaya soup as well as small fruit platters for both nights, and our hotel butler Claire provided extremely attentive service. The hotel breakfast offered a wide variety, and the night views were amazing! The wooden room key was a nice touch.
