An old hotel that retains its grandness.. Although at check in, I was informed there's a charge only if I take the flowery yukata. There are free surprises in the Japanese room every day. Clean Japanese socks, towels in bags and a different Japanese sweet every day with Japanese tea My room faces the Hida River, it was beautiful looking out. It is very near the rail line, but it didn't disturb me. And I suppose all river facing hotels face the same light loving insects. But if you follow the instructions placed in the room, it is alright
Takayama Ouan

This hotel exceeded our expectation! It is very near the Nohi Bus station and the JR Takayama station (3-5 min walk). Although we just stayed overnight, we had a memorable experience in Takayama Ouan. The hotel has a lot of freebies for their guests. They have a booth in the lobby where guests can get free brewed coffee, hot tea, and green lemon iced tea. They also provide free socks since the hotel have tatami flooring. What we also loved about this hotel is the onsen (separate public onsen for male and female, and 3 private onsen). They also have a freezer where guests can get free iced cream after bathing. During past 9 pm, they also have free ramen for their guests. The room is spacious, and the view from our window is also nice (the roads and establishments covered with snow). Aside from the free stuff and great amenities, we also appreciate the kind and friendly staff members. We accidentally lost the luggage claim tag (and we are willing to pay for it) but they didn't charge us anything. When we go back to Takayama, we will definitely stay here again.

The location is convenient, just near the train station. You can feel the strong Japanese flavor when you step into the hotel. You can borrow kimonos for free during your stay. You can also wear them out and stroll around the ancient streets to take photos. It is a good experience. The hotel also has private baths, but reservations need to be made in advance. There are many restaurants and shops nearby, and it takes about 5 minutes to walk to Miyagawa Morning Market and ancient streets. You can choose Japanese or Western breakfast. The Japanese style is very exquisite, rich and delicious. The staff here are attentive and have high English proficiency.

Super convenient, the hotel is located two minute walk from Takayama station on the way it is fully covered so there’s no worry during a snowstorm like when I was there. Service was also amazing staff met the guest with a smile and when I didn’t have an umbrella, I was offered umbrellas for loan straightaway for free. The hotel also has its own Onsen and it was very convenient to see it crowdedness through the TV in your own room. There’s also a rest area where you can enjoy the view of Takayama from the top of the building and a foot spa for those who can’t do the full body hot spring which is very good for people.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Tabino Hotel while exploring Shirakawago, and it was the perfect choice! The hotel is ideally located, making it easy to access the stunning village and its famous thatched-roof houses.  What truly impressed me were the many free amenities offered, from the on-site hot springs to complimentary snacks and beverages. The breakfast was a highlight—delicious and plentiful, with a great selection of both local and international dishes. The staff were welcoming and attentive, making my stay even more enjoyable. If you’re visiting Shirakawago, I highly recommend Tabino Hotel for a comfortable and convenient stay!
Hida Takayama Onsen Takayama Green Hotel

The service was excellent. I especially want to praise the front desk lady that day, because we lost something at the previous hotel the night before, and the hotel's telephone customer service could only speak Japanese, so we couldn't communicate. The front desk lady of this hotel was very patient in helping us. It took up a lot of his time, but she was always very enthusiastic. The hotel also offers indoor and outdoor hot springs, and the restaurant in the hotel also serves good food. The breakfast in the morning was also delicious with a lot of variety. It was a very pleasant stay experience.

It was a very interesting Japanese inn experience. Due to heavy rain affecting JR operations, we arrived at Gero a little late and thought we might not be able to get through. Ctrip and the hotel were very responsible and contacted us very early on the day. We could communicate with the hotel in English via email and the response was timely. Guests arriving between 1:00-6:00 pm can take a taxi to the hotel for free, and there is no need to make an appointment. You can just take it at the station. The hotel also pays for the station delivery when checking out. The hotel's dinner and breakfast are very attentive, exquisite and rich, with fresh ingredients, especially some specialties from the Hida area, and the service is also very professional and considerate. Our room does not have a private bath, but the public bath is equivalent to a private bath, and there is no one indoors or outdoors. Although the mattress in the Japanese room is soft, it does not feel tiring to lie on it. The only problem is that the room cannot open the window, so fresh air cannot come in.

Onsen hotel offering excellent service, superb food and privacy. Service was next to nothing, staff offered Salmon sushi and malt tea at no extra cost as I choosed to skip breakfast to catch up with early bus schedule. The room was very clean and quite spacious. Dinner and breakfast was in Kaiseki style. The food was excellent, particularly the sashimi and the Hida beef (both grilled and sukiyaki). The use of local ingredients added to the uniqueness of the experience. The onsen was not big but cozy. Considering the hotel has about 20 rooms only, it offer very good privacy and I enjoyed the public bath twice alone in my 2 days stay. Rental private bath was a good surprise and worth to try if you are traveling in pair. Location is a bit far from train and bus station up on the top of the hill, but the the pickup service and a nice view of the mountain compensated for that.

Remote location but near to shinhotake ropeway. Very quaint hotel. We stayed in a Japanese room. We did not have dinner in hotel and have to step out when they make the bed for the evening. We were told we can stay in the room but felt that we got in the way. They were very efficient and it was done in under 15mins. The hotel was small and there were 2 different wings. It’s a bit troublesome to take 2 diff lifts to go to dining area/bath. Front desk was earnest but non english speaking. The outdoor baths were really nice. You have to take a small single cabin inclined elevator that you operate on your own to get there. Otherwise a short climb/ stairs. Breakfast was splendid and one of the best we had experienced during our trip. Ingredients were fresh and the portions were just nice.
