We had a great stay at Kingsgate hotel in Te anau. We were greeted with cheerful manager and check-in was smooth. The location is great as it is right opposite lake and it is about 2.5 hrs from Milford sound.
The room was spacious and nice. Did not get to try their dinner or breakfast. Would have preferred if the bathroom had some ventilation as it could smell for some time.
Would definitely stay there again in future.
An absolutely fantastic hotel, you could even say you'd stay here just for it. The Hong Kong-style Chinese restaurant next door is practically perfect, except for the strong smell of cooking oil. Perfect for a relaxing vacation.
The worst hotel in a 10-day trip. It's called a motel, but there are no kitchen facilities, and there is no public kitchen. The sanitary facilities are in poor condition, the faucet splashes, and the shower gel in the shower room is damaged. It usually receives Chinese group tourists, not suitable for self-driving tourists. The restaurant serves group dishes, and the price of a la carte dishes is very expensive. The chef is from Hebei, and the dishes are salty. The only good thing is that the guy at the front desk is very enthusiastic.
Was priced very cheap - room clean but very dated , camp kitchen needed a good scrubbing, broken amenities and no washing machine working - BUT hospitality was great and restaurant attached gave us one of the nicest and cheapest meals we had - took some famous sausages to cook away with us.
We were in hostel so was cheapest accommodation they had - 4 people room was only $100
We stayed here the night before going to Stewart Island. The environment here is not bad, but it is more like a motel than a hotel. The car can be parked right in front of the room. The breakfast here is OK, the bed is big, and the bathroom is big.
Among the accommodation options near the lake and the restaurants, this one is relatively large and has many rooms, but the room facilities are relatively old. In addition, the next door to where I live is under repair, and the technicians are working with loud music. Although it is daytime, it also affects my rest. I saw a rainbow by the lake the next morning, which added points

YyuhongBreakfast is made by the host and the couple themselves, a very warm and kind old couple. You can learn a lot of local attractions and practice English by the way. The room decoration is artistic, clean and hygienic, and there are towels and shower cap hairdryer in the bathroom. But because it is a homestay, you can't cook by yourself.
