The hotel itself was nice and clean. The rooms are spacious. There's a heater and dehumidifier in the room. Food is buffet breakfast and dinner.
We were in the west wing which requires a bit of a walk to get to the room. And the main inconvenience is there is a flight of stairs to get up before having an elevator to the room floor. The outdoor onsen is in a different section to the indoor onsen.
The hotel is certainly geared for skiers as everything closes during the middle of the day (souvenir shop, onsen). So make sure you have activities booked in advance.
The website of the hotel is also a bit confusing with the number in-house activities available - be sure to check with the front counter first. Peak hour staff has good command in English but need translation for night staff.
A few things of note:
- the shuttle is very busy at the 3pm and 10am run - make sure you pre-book
- there is a shuttle to tsurunoyu iriguchi onsen 鶴の湯温泉 from a bus stop near the hotel, no need to take the public bus
The hotel has a very good location. Although not immediately next to the JR station, it's a short and easy walk to get to the hotel from Akita Station. When you see the Museum of Art in the photo, you are arriving. Also, the famous Senshū Park is just across from the street.
It's a grand hotel with nice rooms. The staff are friendly and professional.
It's not far from the bar district. There are many interesting bars over there. After a couple of drinks, you can just walk back to the hotel.
This hotel has a great location within easy walking distance to the station and the park. Breakfast served on the top floor has a good aerial view of the city. Food selection was also great with excellent service even for someone like me who does not speak Japanese. Will return for sure.
I wasn’t too impressed with the top floor public bath at first but the trick is to use the day use one on the ground floor which is connected.
My biggest objection is to breakfast ending at 8:30. Had I known I wouldn’t have booked breakfast in advance.
It's a very typical Japanese hot spring hotel, old but comfortable. The airport transfer service, hot springs, breakfast and dinner were all perfect. We walked along the mountain road to the seaside. The scenery was so beautiful that it cannot be described in words.
What was particularly great was that during dinner, the auntie saw that we liked the paper towels under the plates and very thoughtfully rolled new ones for us. It was so heart-warming despite the language barrier. It was the best experience of this trip. . It's a pity that I don't know her name. I hope I can say thank you to her.
I will go again in the summer if I have the chance!
Very nice experience. The cafe has a warm and cozy ambience. The room is unique too with nice lakeview. The meals are special too. It is better to order meals during this period as you cannot find food elsewhere easily. It’s strongly recommended to visit the Lake Tazawa. The water is so calm and clear and clean.
It's been a long time since I used the hostel, but I could see the point that it was renovated by the person who was operating 々 everywhere, and it was a calm space somehow.
On the day of my stay, I had a bad cold from the day before, and my throat hurt so bad that I was looking forward to the bar, but I couldn't go and ended up.
This time I used it with an accommodation plan with breakfast, but the breakfast is very delicious and I want to enjoy it even for consecutive nights next time.
Recently, I have come to Akita by car for work, but I would like to use it next time if I have a chance.
However, I was worried about the location of the outlet in the room because we were doing electrical work. It will be the same height as the position of the futon, so if you raise it up, it will not get in the way and it will be easy to maintain. If there is no electrical construction shop nearby, we will consult.

Even though the hotel is located in the highlands very far (not within walking distance) from JR Tazawako Station, with the help of the hotel staff at JR Inn Sapporo JRイン 札幌 where I stayed at from May 7 to 10, she helped me to call KAMENOI HOTEL TAZAWAKO亀の井ホテル 田沢湖 to book the hotel's station pick-up service (complimentary) from JR Tazawako Station (田沢湖駅) but had to wait quite a while as the hotel’s pick-up is only available at 3.30pm. There isn’t much to do around the area which has a lot of abandoned buildings, shops and hotels etc. in a state of akiya. But that doesn’t dampen my mood at all as I get to immerse myself in the traditional Japanese ryokan experience of buffet dinner and breakfast (both were excellent), onsen and wearing the traditional yukata. Although the hotel’s open-air onsen (rotemburo) was temporarily closed due to damage during the winter period, the hotel has partnered with another nearby hotel to allow guests to make use of the other hotel’s rotemburo.

I enjoyed the moment while staying here a lot, the price is so cheap compared to what I got, big room, dinner and breakfast, private bath and public bath access. I believe if you enjoy drinking Sake you will love the bar
We stayed as a family of four: a young child, a middle school-aged boy, and myself. Due to a misunderstanding on my part, we were given the wrong room type. Since we had a young child, this was a problem, but when I consulted the front desk staff, they kindly and quickly resolved the issue, providing us with a room that met our needs for only a small additional charge. It was a real lifesaver and made our trip much more enjoyable. Dinner was a barbecue with beef, pork, chicken, and seafood, and 90 minutes of self-serve, all-you-can-drink (including alcohol). There was more food than we could eat! Breakfast was a moderately sized buffet, and although we don't usually eat much for breakfast, we all ended up overeating. The hotel was very clean and the location was excellent. Neither my son nor I usually get up early, but we took a walk on the beach across the street early in the morning, searching for seashells. The children seemed quite satisfied! However, the parking lot is gravel, making it difficult to move around with a stroller. If you know beforehand, you can drop off your child in front of the hotel. The children said they had a great time, so overall, it was a very positive experience for our family!
Really nice home stay in a lovely little village. The host was friendly and helpful. Even though we turned up super late, he was very gracious and welcomed us into his home. Thank you!
