The hotel hasn't done any maintenance in the rooms in years. Our room smelled like mold, and humidity. The shower kept changing temperature, sign of a bad water heater, and had sewage smell coming from the drainage. On our first night, the light switch in the bathroom started smoking and doing sparks everywhere - if we hadn't been there to call the reception right away, it would have been a severe fire hazard. The location is quite good as it is right on the lake, and Is a nice walk in the morning. The cleaners woke us up at 6.30 AM because they were slamming doors and screaming. I think this hotel is a 3star and not 4

There are many hotels and B&Bs on this hilltop, so the view is naturally good; the walkway is a bit musty, but the room is ok; the breakfast buffet is ok; the seafood at the rooftop dinner is not good, the shrimp is frozen; the rich people go out to walk the elephants in the morning, and prepare fruits when checking out, so that you can feed the elephants if you encounter them, which is quite interesting

Our least popular hotel stay in Sri Lanka. We checked in for 4 nights and needed to ask for a room change the following day given the toilet smelt and slowly kept flooding the bathroom floor. That problem clearly pre-existed, but given most people only stay a night, It wasn't something that was high on the hotels priority list to address. The coaches come and go carrying 55-70 year old Europeans and Chinese, and they only stay a night. The level of service at this hotel wasn't a great experience, with reception needing management attention. There were exceptions (pool guy and luggage porter were both lovely). The most frustrating thing about this hotel is that they should be rocking it. It's a great location, nice pool and a good setting, but that's where it stops. The rooms and restaurant are physically tired. Food was pretty average bordering poor despite being plentiful in choice. They had live music playing at night, which was so 'live' that it sent us to sleep early two nights in a row. Great idea, terrible execution, and that is pretty much how we would sum up the place. It's no surprise that the hero promotional shot used by the hotel to market it's hotel is the photo of the view from the swimming póol to Lions Rock. Sadly, that's the only hero experience to be found at this hotel.

Very pretty and nice resort with mountain view. Friendly staffs and super super nice breakfast. However, it is too fat away from Kandy city center, you have to pay 1500+ rp for each ride, and most tuk tuk drivers don't prefer to go to this place. The google map shows wrong way and the team knew about this, but informed us just on the day of arrival, making this journey even harder.

The hotel location is good sigiriya lion rock is not much far from here. Many birds particularly peacocks are there in the property making it a good experience. The room and bathrooms were clean. Hand towels were not there in the room by default have to ask reception both day but upon asking they were delivered promptly. Breakfast spread was good enough. Just that the food on order is not good enough atleast for our taste, but in buffet it is good like many options are only available in buffet but not in ala carte.

GGuest UserThe Good The standout feature of The Coffee Bungalow is undoubtedly its staff, particularly Adrian, who went above and beyond to ensure our stay was enjoyable. Everyone we encountered was attentive and genuinely warm, making us feel well cared for. The food was another highlight—delicious and thoughtfully prepared. A particularly nice touch was when they packed us a complimentary to-go lunch for our train journey out of Kandy, which was a pleasant and unexpected gesture. The Bad The lack of air conditioning was a notable downside, especially given Kandy’s humidity. While the property has a charming colonial feel, the absence of a solid door between the bedroom and bathroom was an odd design choice. Although the toilet and shower do have louvered doors, privacy is somewhat compromised. Another issue was the challenging entry system—we found ourselves locked out one night, which was frustrating and inconvenient. The Ugly Unfortunately, the biggest drawback was the ant problem. While some level of bugs is to be expected in a tropical setting, the sheer number of ants, particularly in the bathroom but also in the bedroom, was hard to ignore. It definitely impacted our overall comfort. Overall, The Coffee Bungalow has a lot of charm and some truly wonderful hospitality, but there are a few quirks and inconveniences that might not suit every traveler. If you’re prepared for a bit of rustic charm and can handle the lack of AC and privacy, the warm service and great food may make up for the downsides.

GGuest UserThe owners and employees at this hotel are so, so lovely. Unfortunately their hotel is not. I almost feel catfished as many of the photos highlighted the bar and pool party atmosphere. This was not the case - the pool was a decent size but in the shade and I actually didn’t see anyone in it. The pool party drinking shots I highly suspect were perhaps not a genuine source. The same goes for the bar which is massive and attended to by several lovely young, bored gentlemen as both times I popped up (once for dinner) I was the only patron. Again no party atmosphere or even people - which is a shame as it is a big venue. Fortunately next door was another venue for some decent cocktails and music which saved the boredom somewhat. The bedroom was a decent size with a small fridge (but didn’t work), the bathroom was small, felt dirty, no hand soap or soap for the shower (apart from leftover previous occupants - and that was gross). The pressure was poor making showering difficult and there was plaster on the floor from some damage - not cleaned up. The bed was massive and comfortable with air conditioning and a fan so sleep was good. Finally, and to repeat, the staff were lovely. Very hospitable and the location is about a ten minute walk to the Sacred Tooth Temple and Kandy Lake. So great location. Would I stay there again - no. Would I pop in to say hello to the owners and next door for a cocktails - possibly!

SSHAOPENGThe location of this hotel is a bit hard to find, but it was really unexpected after entering the hotel. The hotel staff is very good, there will be drinks and drinks, the dinner is really good, and then the breakfast will be prepared in advance in the morning. The only downside is that the room is small, but the scenery outside is very good.

AAnonymous UserMy wife and I stayed here during our trip to Sri Lanka, choosing it because of the great ratings on Google. The location is a little outside of town, so you’ll need to take a tuktuk to get there. It costs less than USD3, and honestly, riding through Nuwara Eliya on a tuktuk was part of the fun. The guesthouse itself feels like a large bungalow with several rooms, designed with a classic British-style interior. Our room was one floor up, not very big but cozy and just right for our stay. The highlight was the balcony that faced the lake, where we could watch the sunrise in the morning. At night, the temperature dropped to around 13°C, so we didn’t even need air conditioning. The water heater worked well, and the bathroom was spacious and comfortable. One thing I wished for was indoor slippers. The floor got very cold at night, so I had to wear socks, which was manageable but slippers would have been nicer. The caretaker was warm and welcoming. He greeted us with hot tea on arrival, which felt amazing in the chilly weather. Breakfast was simple but good. Since we checked out early, he prepared an American-style breakfast for us. Overall, it was a pleasant stay with beautiful views, kind hospitality, and a peaceful atmosphere.

YYOUJUNI used this hotel with a backpacker I met locally. It's a good place to sleep. WiFi is weak on the upper floor and you need to climb the slope to go to this hotel. However, access to Candy city was good and it was good to be able to walk on the shores of the lake. Also, I am satisfied because there was an elephant on the way to go and I was allowed to test drive.

GGuest UserRecommended, the location is very good, opposite the Lion Rock, and there are many food and drink options next to the hotel. The lobby decoration is very distinctive, and the room is not big but comfortable and clean. There are not many types of breakfast, but it is a pleasure to sit in the beautiful lobby to eat. And the price matches!

GGuest UserOur stay in the villa yea fields was a real paradise. It’s impossible to describe how peaceful it is, how relaxing and inspiring. We have spent 2 most lovely days in this villa thanks to the genuine kindness of the hosts and villa’s situation. Located in the very middle of the tea fields, you can not get enough of this view. Breakfast is very rich and carefully prepared, the room is spacious and clean. The hosts are the most wonderful people. We even had a chance to have a private visit to the tea fields which was definitely the aim of our journey to Sri Lanka. Highly recommend for your stay in the peace and unspoiled nature !
