Grand Harvest Resort & Villas - Ijen

Because we arrived late and got up early the next day, we asked the hotel to pack breakfast and take it away in the morning. The front desk agreed, but when we came to pick it up the next morning, there was nothing. Fortunately, after communication, several people made it for us to take away, and there were omelettes, etc., which was quite satisfactory. The resort is large and the environment is good, but unfortunately I only slept there. The room and bedding are quite comfortable and I slept soundly.

I recently spent my New Year's celebration at the Marriott Surabaya, and let me tell you, the first impression was like discovering a ”classic vinyl record”—a bit outdated yet full of charm! The decor leans towards the older side, but I was prepared for this vibe thanks to various reviews I had read. After settling in, I grew to love the cozy atmosphere—like wrapping myself in a warm blanket. The room was surprisingly spacious, offering more space than many newer hotels, making it feel like my own little oasis! The bathroom was also gleaming and roomy enough for an impromptu dance party, should the mood strike! Now, let’s dive into the breakfast experience at Pavilion. The cage-like design of the venue adds a unique touch, inviting plenty of sunlight—perfect for brightening up your morning. The buffet offered a wide array of dishes to satisfy international travelers' palates, making each breakfast an exciting adventure. The selection of Indonesian cuisines and desserts was particularly impressive. But what truly set Pavilion apart was the staff. They were superb and went above and beyond, taking the time to cater to us personally. They even recommended and brought out some local dishes—insider choices that added an authentic touch to our dining experience. In my past hotel breakfasts, the staff often just fulfilled their duties, but here, it felt more like breakfast with friends. That warmth and attentiveness made all the difference! And don’t miss out on the local flavors of ice cream! I can’t name the flavors since they’re all in local dialects, but they were heavenly and a fun challenge to try! For lunch and dinner, I found myself opting for room service several times because resisting their tempting menu was like ignoring a catchy tune stuck in your head. Each meal surpassed my expectations—purely irresistible! Another delightful surprise was the complimentary laundry service offered daily, which saved me after my waterfall adventure left me looking like a mud monster. And post-overnight trip to Bromo? I was practically a walking dust bunny! As I like to say, ”It's the little things that count,” and this thoughtful touch truly made a difference. Lastly, the hotel's location is fantastic! Just a short stroll away lies the biggest shopping mall—truly a haven for foodies and shoppers alike. Overall, my stay at the Marriott Surabaya was delightful, and I left with wonderful memories—definitely a place I’d recommend for a cozy yet vibrant experience!

Didn't expect my stay to be that satisfying. As my last experience with an old hotel (Hotel Elm*) didn't leave a very good impression on me. But I decided to stay anyway because of the good reviews of this hotel. Turns out, it was all true. The front building was built in 1913, now with the famous red dome-shaped canopy on the windows, still very well taken care of. They built another high story (around 9) building, which the hotel rooms were. I was surprised that they had some stories for parking lot, too. And this hotel was formerly managed by Ibis. I booked a superior room, because they said that their standard rooms were mostly smoking. The bathroom was very clean, the walls were marble patterned so you can't see it from the photos. But I assure you it was clean, and didn't smell weird or anything. The hot water and the pressure were perfect. The room was very comfy, too. Bright on the day and the lamps were bright enough for the night. Very nice and quiet, too. Bed was wobbly and too bouncy for me, but still comfy. Too bad the sheets had weird yellow stains on them. But it smelled new and fresh. Maybe the stains just couldn't come off. And I still had a good night sleep. They also provided us with water dispenser, so I could refilled my bottles. But there was no fridge or hair dryer (but I think you can ask for this) in the room. Check in and check out were super fast. And although part of it was an old colonial building, it didn't feel spooky or anything. Breakfast was nice, but I think the milk wasn't fresh. It tasted weird. The only minus side for me was the restaurant and common areas, although fully Air Con'ed, were ALL smoking areas (except the floor for superior rooms, I think). So I had my breakfast in peace and a person on the next table smoked, inside the restaurant, inside the hotel. Sorry but I hate smokers who smoke inside. I get it that people used to smoke everywhere, even cigarettes were considered safe for kids and pregnant women once. But it was decades ago, dear Mr/Madam. Please update! But did I mention that I got the discounted superior room with breakfast from Trip.com for less than $20? Yes you read that right. 4-stars hotel with 2-stars hotel price. Would definitely come back again if I get the chance.

If you don't mind hotels with old nuances and so-so service... Then this hotel might be the right choice. A few useful tips for you: order from the application with the lowest rate, choose the lowest class, do not order the service with breakfast, most importantly ... Lower expectations as low as possible Plus: the price is very cheap, the publish-rate is even cheaper than some apps. Their lowest class (July 2022) is only 270k, 290k with breakfast (usually fried rice delivered to each room). The location is right in the heart of Surabaya, next door to Plaza Surabaya, Surabaya Square, Submarine Monument, and 5 minutes walk from Gubeng Lama Station. And oh yeah, each of their rooms is equipped with a bathtub. Minus: some of the interiors seem gloomy and many are already dull. The swimming pool is so-so, but not child-friendly, the shallowest part is 1.2 m and there is no clear barrier with the bottom of the pool sloping to a depth of 1.9 m, so parents who invite their children to swim here must really accompany and ensure children just play along the stairs to enter the pool. Coffee, tea and toiletries provided are only for one person each, except for two towels which look very dull. The choice of food is very limited, the additional menu offered is very expensive, it's better to order online service Two notes that bothered me quite a bit; 1. A sizeable tax arrears sticker on the front window of the hotel. With the pandemic conditions getting better, I hope you recover quickly and get over it... 2. In the morning I was about to go to the swimming pool, access was still closed, it didn't really matter, the receptionist responded quickly, it's just that at that time there were several young people from nowhere, I can confirm that they were not hotel guests, talking very noisy , two of which smoked from the lobby all the way down the hall to the pool without noticing the surroundings. One of the youths who previously smoked, still wearing trousers and a t-shirt, entered the swimming pool, then used soap in the pool. Enough to take away my mood

I have check out from executive room after 2 nights stay. I find out this deluxe room almost same with the executive room I stay before. In term of the amenities, this room they did not provide a coffee machine and the price low way cheaper from my previous so call executive room. Instead this room I get higher floor. Room just ok but not up to 5 star level . Basic amenities. No bathroom scale , no pillow menu , not even welcome drink offer even though stated welcome drink complementary. Lift landing carpet pretty old . Toilet smelly from the drainage . No shop surrounding dark in the night. Breakfast sufficient, but bakery/ pastry counter just a waste. Should change to baked flour counter. Tasteless. Overall ok and might be superb for those not a frequent traveller.

A Truly Luxurious Stay at Shangri-La Surabaya! I recently stayed at the Shangri-La Surabaya, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish! From the moment I arrived, the staff greeted me with warmth and professionalism, ensuring my comfort and satisfaction throughout my stay. The room was spacious, elegantly designed, and equipped with all modern amenities, offering a perfect blend of luxury and comfort. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the view of the city skyline from my window was breathtaking. I truly appreciated the attention to detail in the room’s setup and daily housekeeping. The facilities at the hotel are top-notch! The pool area is a beautiful oasis – a perfect place to relax. I also enjoyed the gym, which was well-equipped for a good workout. But the real highlight for me was the spa. The treatments were rejuvenating, and the environment was serene, providing the perfect escape after a busy day. Dining at Shangri-La Surabaya was an absolute delight. The breakfast buffet offered a wide selection of both local and international dishes, all prepared to perfection. Each meal was a treat for the taste buds, with attentive staff making the dining experience even more enjoyable. The hotel’s location is also convenient, close to major attractions and shopping centers, making it easy to explore Surabaya. However, the hotel itself is so luxurious that you may not even want to leave! Overall, my stay at Shangri-La Surabaya was exceptional. The combination of world-class service, luxurious accommodations, and outstanding facilities make this hotel a top choice for anyone visiting Surabaya. I highly recommend it and can't wait to return!
