Yueguo Duke Ancestral Hall in Xingguo, Jiangxi.

Also known as the Zhong Ancestral Hall, it was built in 1803 during the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty to commemorate Zhong Shaojing (659–746), the first prime minister of Jiangnan during the Tang Dynasty. The architectural structure of the Yueguo Duke Ancestral Hall resembles a tiger descending a mountain, facing southeast, and covers an area of over 1,200 square meters. The grand gate tower of the "Yueguo Duke Ancestral Hall" resembles an official's hat and stands majestically on the street. The lintel is inscribed with the words "Yueguo Duke Ancestral Hall" in Northern Wei script. The couplet on either side of the gate reads: "From Yingchuan to Pingchuan, the lineage spreads like a river; first Xingguo, then Yueguo, the Yuan Dynasty and the nation prosper." This reflects the prestigious reputation and migration history of Zhong Shaojing's family, the first prime minister of Jiangnan. Passing through a double (commonly known as funnel-shaped) pedestrian path, the first thing that catches the eye is the eight-character archway-style gate tower, with three gates and three entrances. The left gate is called "Yuzong," the right gate is called "Huiyuan," and the middle is the harmonious main gate. The roof ridge features inverted arowanas facing each other, small stone lions facing away, and a pair of qilins echoing each other. The three sets of sculptures are arranged in sequence, creating a harmonious layout. The lintel inscription "Yueguo Duke Ancestral Hall" is in regular script, contrasting with the previous gate tower's inscription in Northern Wei script, balancing yin and yang, and embodying the essence of ancient feng shui theories. The lintel is flanked by two stone reliefs, depicting figures wearing hairpins and robes, exuding elegance and grace. The entrance hall features a unique Bagua caisson, with a red lacquer relief of a qilin looking up. The ceiling of the second hall is adorned with painted flower panels, with 300 panels inscribed with 300 Tang poems. The third hall, also known as the rear hall, features a wall with paintings of orchids in vases and qilins spitting jade books. The central altar has a tiered design, enshrining the ancestral tablets of the Zhong family. It is a key cultural relic protection unit in Jiangxi Province.
