Valletta - a fortress city and a stronghold of the Maltese knights

Valletta is the capital of the Republic of Malta, the economic and political center of the state. It is located on the north-eastern coast of the island of Malta, on a rocky peninsula between two natural bays of the Mediterranean Sea (Marsamxett and Grand Harbor). The fortified city was founded in 1566 to repel the attack of Turkish troops on the Knights of Malta.
