The most charming village in Normandy

#westerneurope #europe #normandy I visited Veules-les-Roses in Normandy and it was honestly one of the most charming villages I’ve ever seen. It’s officially listed as one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France, and it’s easy to see why. The entire place feels like a hidden gem—timbered cottages, gardens full of roses and hydrangeas, and the Veules River (the shortest in France) running right through the village down to the sea. Walking along the river, I passed old watermills, stone bridges, and little vegetable gardens tucked behind houses. Everything looks like it’s been taken straight out of a painting. There’s this calm, quiet beauty to the place that’s really rare. Even though it’s small, there’s a lot to take in—quaint shops, seaside views, and little spots where you can sit and just listen to the water. It’s the kind of village that doesn’t try too hard—just naturally picturesque and full of character. I completely understand why artists and writers, like Victor Hugo, loved it. If you’re anywhere near the Normandy coast, it’s absolutely worth the detour.
