Yangan Earth Buildings: A Step Back in Time

Over 95% of the villagers are surnamed Zheng, and they live in 367 earth buildings. The buildings are scattered across the mountains, giving the impression of stepping back in time. ❤ Yangan Earth Buildings: "Yang" means facing the sun, and "gan" means steep. There is a saying in southern Shexian: "Blessed people rest on earth walls (earth buildings)." 📝 In 806 BC, King Xuan of Zhou, Ji Jing, enfeoffed his half-brother Ji You in Zheng, known as Duke Huan of Zheng, the founding ancestor of the Zheng family. The villagers are all surnamed Zheng, likely due to this history. ✅ The villagers are all elderly, guarding their old houses and waiting for city folk to come and eat and stroll. The mountain roads are winding and steep, not suitable for taking parents.
