A Must-See: The Nine Surnames Fishing Performance

To attract tourists, the Xin'an River Landscape Gallery has launched a regular performance called 'Ancient Fishing Traditions of Xin'an,' based on the story of the 'Nine Surnames Fishing.' The show vividly depicts how the people of the nine surnames used traditional methods and fishing tools to catch fish in ancient times. Several boats of various sizes line up in a row, starting with a ritual followed by a demonstration of fishing techniques. The performers, who are highly skilled, strive to showcase the traditional fishing culture of Huizhou. However, upon closer inspection, most of the performers are elderly, raising concerns about the future of this tradition, as young people are moving to cities in search of new opportunities.
