Shanghai Post Museum

Located in Hongkou district the Shanghai post museum was built in 1924 and shares the building with some modern day Shanghaj postal operations. The museum is open nearly every day and is free, you just need to show your health codes and write your passport details. The museum has lots to show as the postal service in China had an eclectic past. Once a private enterprise, it then was managed directly by the British before expanding and improving in the mid 20th century. There are many kinds of different artifacts to explore and learn about such as valuable and famous stamps to postboxes from around the world. There is no gift shop or refreshments available in the museum, however, an hour should be plenty to visit the museum. Getting there is easy, it is a 5 minute walk from the line 12 station TiantongRoad. It is also possible to walk directly from the Bund.

If you ever find yourself at the bund with an hour to spare, definitely check out the Shanghai Postal Museum! The museum is free and open to the public. it covered the evolution of postal services from the late Qing Dynasty to the republic days and then modern day China. I liked learning about how Shanghai’s colonial history affected the development of the postal services known to us today. Visit during golden hour to get some nice golden hour photos. #awesomepic#nyedestinations
