🌽 Tasting the Gold of the Incas

🇵🇪 In the heart of Peru's magnificent Sacred Valley lies Ollantaytambo, one of the last "living" Inca towns. Here, ancient stone water channels still flow beside cobblestone streets. But to find the true spirit of the Andes, you must seek out a taste of its most traditional drink: Chicha de Jora. 🏺 This isn't just any beer. Chicha de Jora is a sacred, fresh corn beer whose recipe dates back to the Inca Empire. It has been a vital part of social gatherings, celebrations, and ceremonies for thousands of years. Forget fancy bars; this ancient brew is found in local homes, marked by a simple sign for those in the know. 🏔️ Drinking chicha in the shadow of Ollantaytaytambo's mighty Inca ruins is one of the most authentic cultural experiences you can have in Peru, connecting you directly to the traditions of the Andean people. ✅ How to have the perfect Chicha experience: * Look for the Red Flag: To find a traditional chicheria, wander the backstreets and look for a red plastic bag or flag tied to a long pole sticking out from a doorway. This is the universal sign that fresh chicha is available inside. * Savour the Unique Flavour: Step into what is often a family's simple courtyard or room. The chicha will be served in large glasses, often for a very small price. Expect a unique, slightly sour, and earthy flavour – it's unlike any modern beer. * Explore the Ollantaytambo Ruins: After your drink, climb the spectacular Inca fortress that looms over the town. Imagine the ceremonies and daily life of the people who once thrived here, sustained by this very same golden corn brew. 💡 Pro Tip: Before taking your first sip, it is customary to pour a small amount onto the ground as an offering and sign of respect to "Pachamama" (Mother Earth). This simple gesture is a beautiful way to participate in a timeless Andean tradition. 🏨 Hotel Recommendation: For a luxurious base to explore the Sacred Valley, book a stay at Tambo del Inka, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa. Located in nearby Urubamba, this stunning hotel offers incredible amenities and is the only one in the valley with its own private train station for trips to Machu Picchu. You can book your stay via Trip.com. #travel2getahead #ollantaytambo #sacredvalley #peru #visitperu #chicha #chichadejora #inca #drinklikealocal #andes #authentictravel

Salt Mine of Maras

Cusco: The capital of the Inca Empire, a city where Inca and Spanish colonial architecture coexist. Moray is one of them. A unique Inca ruins located in the Sacred Valley region near Cusco, Peru. It consists of huge circular terraces and is widely known as the agricultural experiment site of the Inca civilization. Sacred Valley (Urubamba Valley): The center of Inca agriculture and religious ceremonies, various ruins and traditional villages remain. The most mysterious place is the salt pans here. Salinenas!! A unique terraced salt pan located in a mountain valley at an altitude of about 3,300m. This area was originally a sea area long ago, and when the area was uplifted, salty water rose from underground, and the Incas used it to create about 3,000 small terraced ponds to produce salt. #Peru #Salinenas Terracing is a traditional agricultural technique that is very effective in soil protection and erosion prevention by cutting sloping hillsides into terraced farmland. Soil erosion preventionTerracing significantly reduces soil erosion by preventing rainwater from quickly flowing down the slope. Each terrace temporarily holds rainwater, increasing infiltration time and minimizing soil loss. Water and nutrient conservation Flat farmland is formed at each terrace, allowing rainwater to permeate evenly and preventing moisture and nutrients in the soil from easily escaping, which is beneficial for crop growth. Irrigation and Drainage Systems Terraced farming involves installing drainage ditches and irrigation systems to prevent water from pooling on each terrace, reducing the risk of flooding and landslides, and preventing the soil from becoming too wet or washed away. #PeruTravel #SaltFish #CuscoTravel #Moray #CuscoCathedral
