Karakul Lake

Karakul Lake, like White Sand Lake, is located beside National Highway 314, at the foot of Muztagh Ata, known as the "Father of Glaciers." The lake is named "Karakul," which means Black Lake in Kyrgyz, due to its deep and dark waters. Karakul Lake is a highland lake situated at the foot of Muztagh Ata and Kongur Tagh. The lake is surrounded by lush grass and abundant birds, offering captivating scenery. The legend of a lake monster adds an extra layer of mystery to this already eerie place. Unlike White Sand Lake, Karakul Lake's waters are bluer and closer to the snow-capped mountains, providing a more vibrant visual experience. On calm days, the lake surface can reflect the image of the snow mountains. The breathtaking view is beyond words and photos. In good weather, you can see the reflection of Muztagh Ata and Kongur Jiubie Peak on the lake surface. It is also an excellent spot to admire these two snow-capped mountains.
