Nagoya, a travelogue where small-town sensibility and gourmet food coexist

#July Travel Support Fund Nagoya is a central city in central Japan, and while it is convenient for transportation, it is not as crowded as Tokyo or Osaka, so it has a much more relaxed atmosphere. Throughout my trip, I thought that it was a city with small but deep charm. The first stop was Nagoya Castle. The magnificent castle decorated with golden Shachihoko boasted traditional grandeur even in the city center, and the exhibition hall inside was interesting for seeing the history and culture of the Edo period. The Japanese garden around the castle was also great for taking pictures while walking. Next, I visited Osu Kannon Temple and Osu Shopping Street. The temple was a quiet place but always crowded with locals, and the shopping street was full of kimono accessory shops and street food. In particular, the misokatsu with rich miso sauce and tenmusu, a combination of rice balls and fried food, were really delicious. I also didn't forget Nagoya's signature dish, hitsumabushi. The three ways to enjoy the crispy grilled eel rice bowl were unique and satisfying: eating it as is, eating it with green onions, seaweed, and wasabi, and finally pouring the broth and enjoying it in ochazuke style. I also went to the Nagoya City Science Museum because I wanted to experience culture and science. The world's largest planetarium was really overwhelming, and there were many hands-on exhibits that both children and adults could enjoy, which was interesting. In the evening, I went to the Sakae area and saw the Nagoya TV Tower and Oasis 21. At night, the tower and glass dome lit up, creating a sophisticated night view, and there were many shopping malls and cafes nearby, so I stayed there for a long time. Nagoya is not crowded, so it is quiet, but it is a city that has a good balance of tradition and modernity, culture and gourmet food.
