Nagoya, a hidden gem in central Japan.

Nagoya may not be as glamorous as Tokyo or Osaka, but it’s a city perfect for a calm and leisurely trip. It offers a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, along with delicious food and historical sites, making each day fulfilling. The first place I visited was Nagoya Castle. The castle’s iconic golden shachihoko gleamed brightly, creating a majestic atmosphere. Inside, traditional exhibits and historical stories were well-organized and fascinating. The garden surrounding the castle was also beautiful, ideal for a relaxing stroll. Next, I explored the Osu Shopping District, which had a unique mix of traditional and modern vibes. The nearby Osu Kannon Temple was worth a quick visit, and the shopping district offered a variety of street foods. Among them, Nagoya’s specialty, miso katsu, stood out with its rich and flavorful taste. I couldn’t miss trying **Hitsumabushi (grilled eel rice bowl)**, a must-eat in Nagoya. The eel was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The dish is enjoyed in three ways: first as it is, then with wasabi and green onions, and finally as ochazuke by pouring broth over the rice. It was truly a unique culinary experience. To experience both culture and science, I visited the Nagoya City Science Museum. Its world-class planetarium was incredibly impressive, offering an immersive experience that felt like traveling through space. In the evening, I headed to the Sakae area to see Nagoya TV Tower and Oasis 21. The sophisticated night view was completely different from the daytime scenery. With plenty of cafes and shops, it was a great spot for shopping and strolling. Nagoya is a city that’s not overly crowded, offering a peaceful atmosphere while blending tradition, modernity, and great food. Even with a short itinerary, the satisfaction was high, and I’m sure I’ll discover new charms on my next visit.
