Ma Chao's Tomb, Earlier Than Zhuge Liang's Tomb

In the history of the Three Kingdoms, Ma Chao was a prominent figure and one of the Five Tiger Generals of Shu Han. In 222 AD, Ma Chao was stationed at Yangping Pass (now the old city of Mian County), the gateway to the northern border of Shu Han. He died of illness while in office and the Shu Han court buried him on the spot, which is now Ma Chao's tomb. Zhuge Liang once commented on Ma Chao: "He is a man of both civil and military talents, extremely heroic and a hero of the time." The Ma Chao Tomb Shrine currently houses a stone tablet with the inscription "Tomb of General Ma Gongchao of the Han Dynasty" erected by Bi Yuan, the governor of Shaanxi Province in the 41st year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty, and a statue of Ma Chao from the Ming Dynasty.
