Hanzhong Shimen Plank Road is the site of the plank road that Liu Bang used to "openly repair the plank roads, secretly cross Chencang." Zhuge Liang also took this road during his Northern Expeditions. However, the original plank road was submerged due to the construction of the Shimen Reservoir. Although the plank road in the scenic area today is a replica, the route is indeed the original one. The Shimen Plank Road Scenic Area is long and narrow, divided by the Shimen Reservoir dam. There are statues of various historical figures along the Bao River in front of the dam. The name Bao River comes from the fact that Hanzhong was given to a person surnamed Bao who had made contributions to flood control by Dayu in ancient times. Therefore, ancient Hanzhong was called the State of Bao. The most famous person from the State of Bao is Bao Si, known for the story of "the beacon fire that tricked the feudal lords." Upstream of the dam is the Shimen Reservoir, and the plank road is built next to the reservoir. The entire journey is about 2 kilometers, and the road is relatively flat. There are many cliff carvings on the mountain, the most famous of which are the two characters "Gun Xue" left by Cao Cao.
