Hiroshima: A Journey of Gentle Resonance and Peace

Hiroshima is one of Japan's most historically significant cities. Despite bearing the scars of war, it impressively conveys messages of peace and hope. The first stop of the trip was the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome. The dome, left standing at the hypocenter, silently narrates the tragedy of war, while the Peace Memorial Museum displays records and artifacts from that time, leaving a heavy impression on the heart. However, the countless paper cranes and the Peace Bell scattered throughout the park reflect the wishes of people hoping such events will never be repeated. Next, I took a ferry to Miyajima. The iconic red torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine, seemingly floating on the sea, was truly breathtaking. The scenery, which changes with the tides, felt mystical. Around the shrine, deer roamed freely, adding to the tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. Hiroshima's culinary delights were also a must-try. Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, layered and cooked on a teppan grill, was hearty and flavorful, while the fresh Hiroshima oysters were light, tender, and satisfying. Finally, I visited Hiroshima Castle. Although reconstructed after the war, the castle harmonized beautifully with its surroundings. Inside, exhibitions provided insights into Hiroshima's history and culture. Hiroshima is a city that remembers its painful past while promoting peace. It’s a destination where nature, tradition, and gastronomy come together, offering more than just sightseeing—a journey that leaves a lasting impression in the heart.
