Dagu Glacier has always held a mysterious charm for me—there’s a cable car that goes straight up to the 4,860-meter viewing platform, and at the top, there’s a “Lonely Café.” Being there feels like stepping into another pure world of ice and snow. This time, I came specifically for an autumn date with Dagu Glacier. Who says there’s only ice and snow here? Autumn at Dagu Glacier is truly worth the visit! Sightseeing Bus Stops & Travel Route [1] Dashiwowo Colorful Forest This is the first stop reached by the park shuttle bus. The colorful forest covering the hillsides is very photogenic. I suggest getting off to take a few photos but not staying too long, as there are more wonderful sights ahead. [2] Golden Monkey Lake There’s a small lake here, and you might encounter some monkeys along the way, though not many. Don’t feel disappointed; you’ll see more later. Just take a couple of quick shots and keep moving forward! [3] Tibetan Macaque Viewing Area Both adults and kids will love this spot—there are many lively monkeys. You can prepare some bread or corn in advance (monkeys love these) to interact with them, which is super fun. [4] Zenaco Lake This is a release site maintained by local villagers, where you can experience unique folk customs. There’s a lake and snow-capped mountains here, with an especially wide view. Quickly fly your drone to capture the stunning scenery. [5] Dagu Lake By the time you reach here, the altitude is already quite high. The lake is formed by meltwater from millennia-old glaciers, and its color changes with the seasons, making photos especially beautiful. Be sure to stop and check in! [6] Loge God Mountain - Pilgrimage Trail [Recommended] This is a hiking route about 7 kilometers round trip, taking roughly 3 hours. Along the way, you can see Loge God Mountain, Nam Lake, Red Willow Beach, and enjoy natural landscapes like alpine meadows, snow peaks, and waterfalls. It’s truly a paradise for hiking enthusiasts! Important Tip: If you don’t plan to hike and want to take the cable car directly up the mountain, you can follow this order: Visitor Center → Golden Monkey Lake → Tibetan Macaque Viewing Area → Zenaco Lake → Dagu Lake → Loge God Mountain → Cable Car Lower Station → Cable Car Upper Station → 4,860m Viewing Platform → Tear Lake → Café → Five-Star Red Flag Check-in Point → Cable Car Upper Station → Cable Car Lower Station → Visitor Center. 3 Days 2 Nights Itinerary Day 1: Chengdu → Heishui County Arrive in Heishui County and rest for the night. The next day, Dagu Glacier is very close, making travel especially convenient. Day 2: Dagu Glacier → Yangronghade Spend the morning exploring Dagu Glacier, then head to Yangronghade in the afternoon—known as “China’s Most Beautiful Tibetan Village.” In the evening, there will be a bonfire party where you can dance with local villagers and immerse yourself in the unique charm of the Tibetan village. Day 3: Heishui County → Hongyuan → Chengdu Heishui is not far from Hongyuan, so on the way back, you can visit the vast grasslands of Western Sichuan. If you have more time, you can continue from Hongyuan to Ruoergai for a few more days to deeply experience the scenery of Western Sichuan!
