While the garden itself isn't traditionally "spooky," the guides told wonderfully inventive, kid-friendly stories about the gnomes and sprites that supposedly live in the nooks and crannies of the stone walls. The highlight for the children was running over the small bridges while the leaves crunched loudly beneath their feet. For the adults, the beauty of the fading roses—fragrant but decaying—provided the subtle, beautiful melancholy of the season. It’s a very gentle, elegant way to celebrate Halloween, prioritizing historical charm and autumnal beauty over cheap frights. A worthwhile family outing, especially if your children appreciate nature's moody side.
