Claude Monet's House and Gardens - Giverny

#hellohalloween The Anti-Cliché Haunted House (3 Stars) I was hoping for a few more overt Halloween decorations, but Giverny’s natural state in late October proved to be far more effective than any plastic skeleton could be. The Clos Normand, having shed its summer bounty, now looked lean and severe, its structure exposed and skeletal. We followed a guided "Late Harvest Haunt" tour, which cleverly pointed out how Monet's preference for certain somber, deep purples and oranges in his later work mirrored the colors of decomposition and late autumn. It was a sophisticated scare—a historical haunting rather than a theatrical one. While my kids were a little bored without fake cobwebs, I appreciated the intellectual chill of standing in a garden so beautiful, yet so clearly submitting to the inevitable winter sleep.
