Located just a short walk from the famous Geysir geothermal area in the Haukadalur Valley, this campsite is the perfect base for exploring one of Iceland’s most iconic spots. The price for a tent pitch was about 2000 ISK per person (around €13), which is quite reasonable considering the proximity to such a major attraction. Setting up my tent with the steam rising from the nearby geysers in the background was surreal. The campsite itself is well-maintained, with clean facilities including showers, a kitchen area, and a cozy communal space where I met travelers from all over the world. Waking up in the crisp Icelandic air, I could hear the distant eruptions of Strokkur, the active geyser that shoots water up to 20 meters high every few minutes. From the campsite, it’s only a 5-minute walk to the Geysir area, where I spent hours marveling at the geothermal activity. The site is free to visit and truly one of nature’s spectacles. In the evening, I took a short drive to the nearby Gullfoss waterfall, just 10 kilometers away, and witnessed the golden light of the setting sun hitting the powerful falls—an unforgettable sight. Camping Geysir is a must for anyone looking to immerse themselves in Iceland’s dramatic landscape.
