The Zhengyangmen Arrow Tower has finally reopened after 35 years since its closure in 1990! Many people confuse the Zhengyangmen Arrow Tower with Zhengyangmen Gate. The Arrow Tower is the one closer to Qianmen Street. Built in 1439 during the Ming Dynasty's Zhengtong reign, it is Beijing's largest arrow tower and holds an important position on Beijing's Central Axis heritage site, displaying imperial majesty and witnessing numerous historical events. It's also an excellent spot to photograph Zhengyangmen Gate, which is Beijing's largest and most important city gate and quite magnificent. Address: No. 2 Qianmen Street, Dongcheng District. 🚆 Transportation: Take subway Line 2/8 Exit B or Qianmen Station Exit E1, then follow signs and walk about 3 minutes. Opening Hours: Tuesday - Sunday 9:00 - 17:00 (last entry at 16:30, closes at 17:00), closed on Mondays. Reservation Method: Book tickets one day in advance through the "Beijing Central Axis Heritage Protection Center" WeChat public account for the next 7 days. Tickets are released daily at 17:00. Each account can book for up to 5 people. Entry requires reservation code + ID card. Notes: Security checks are strict. Bags must be stored, and water and food cannot be brought in. Travel light is recommended. Inside the Arrow Tower, there are four floors. Floors 1-3 host the special exhibition "Beijing Central Axis—A Masterpiece of China's Ideal Capital Order," presenting the Beijing Central Axis heritage application through artifacts, documents, old photographs, and other exhibits divided into three sections: "Heritage Description," "Heritage Value," and "Protection and Management," telling its past and present story. The 4th floor is a city lounge displaying many intangible cultural heritage items. Free Guided Tours: Four free guided tours daily at 9:30, 11:30, 13:30, and 15:30. Hidden Experiences: 1. Climb to the fourth floor and look out over the railings for a panoramic view of the 1,400-meter Qianmen Street. Looking through the windows gives you a sense of traveling through time. 2. After exiting, look for the lion 🦁 statues in front and behind the tower. The two pairs near Zhengyangmen are from the Qing Dynasty (one pair was moved from the Summer Palace), while the pair near Qianmen Street is from the Ming Dynasty, each with distinct styles. 3. The gate passage under the Arrow Tower is perfect for photos. Walking through it feels like traveling between ancient and modern times. 4. Just inside the entrance, on the left side of the first floor, there are free Central Axis promotional booklets. Grab one to learn about the history while listening to the guide and enjoying the scenery.
