During my visit in March, I arrived at the Meridian Gate at 9:10 AM and completed the ticket check in 15 minutes. I heard from tourists who arrived after 10 AM that they waited an hour for ticket checks. The peak time for ticket checks at the Forbidden City is 11:00 AM, as both morning and afternoon tickets are checked at this time. Be prepared to wait in long lines! Worried about lunch if you enter in the morning? Don't worry, there's an ice cellar restaurant inside the Forbidden City offering meals. Did you know that tickets to the Forbidden City in Beijing must be booked 7 days in advance? And that it's highly recommended to book your tickets for Universal Studios ahead of time, too? So, if you're taking a last-minute trip to Beijing, you might not be able to get into these spots. But don't worry! You can still easily visit other equally amazing attractions in Beijing: 1. Temple of Heaven (天坛) - You can easily buy tickets right at the gate. 34 CNY during peak season, 28 CNY in the off-season. This includes access to the park and the historical sites inside. 2. Tiananmen Square (天安门) - You can conveniently book tickets on the same day or a day in advance, and admission is free. 3. Beihai Park (北海公园) - Tickets can be purchased on the spot. 20 CNY in peak season, 15 CNY in the off-season. 4. Great Wall of China - Mutianyu Section (慕田峪). You can buy tickets a day in advance or right at the entrance. You can catch the yellow buses at the top of Qianmen Street (前门). A round-trip bus ride costs 80 CNY. The wall entrance ticket is 45 CNY. To reach the wall itself, you can either hike up or take a cable car (closed gondola or open chairlift). For the way down, you can ride a toboggan down a slide (it's incredibly fun!). The cable car/toboggan costs about 140 CNY round-trip on average. 5. Summer Palace (颐和园) - Tickets can be bought on the spot. 60 CNY for an all-access pass, 30 CNY for just park entry. 6. Qianmen Street (前门) - Free. This is a historic commercial street. 7. Hutongs (胡同) - These are ancient, narrow alleyways formed by rows of traditional Chinese courtyard homes known as siheyuan. They are the ultimate "calling card" and the very "soul" of old Beijing. If you couldn't get a ticket to the Forbidden City via WeChat on the official website, there's a workaround. Take the subway to Tian'anmen West station, take Exit B, and walk down the street to the left of the main entrance. Head inside through Zhongshan Park - Shejitan. For just a couple of yuan per person, you'll step into Huifang Garden—filled with ancient trees, peaceful, and practically empty. Naturally, it's perfect for photos 😄 Keep walking through the park, and you'll pop right out at the entrance to the Forbidden City. There are ticket windows in the plaza right before the entrance where you can grab same-day tickets. Remember, a passport is strictly required to visit any of the attractions here. For 40 yuan per person, you get into the palace complex. Be warned: it's incredibly crowded and shoulder-to-shoulder packed. You'll be shuffling along in a massive crowd, but we just couldn't skip Beijing's main attraction. The sheer scale and majesty of the imperial palace will completely blow you away 😍

A photoshoot in traditional Chinese clothing ❤️ Memories to last a lifetime! 📌 One of the must-dos for my Beijing trip was renting a traditional outfit and getting my makeup done. There are several rental options with different packages on Trip.com. I chose one based on reviews featuring Slavic girls) I booked a makeup + outfit + hair package (~200 RMB), without a photographer, since my husband was with me and I taught him how to take phone pics 😄 I arrived at the salon by 9:00 AM, and my look was complete in 1.5 hours. A quick heads-up for blonde girls: they only have black hair wigs, which are necessary for the hairstyle. It actually looked pretty good on me, though definitely unusual) Outfits: my booking package only included a limited selection that didn't quite match the vision in my head) I asked to pay an upgrade fee for the premium outfits. I paid an extra 110 RMB and picked out this stunning princess costume 💔. Super affordable in my opinion! My salon was right across from Beihai Park, but since we already had tickets for the Forbidden City that day, we decided to do a mini-shoot inside the inner palace ❤️ To the locals, seeing a Slavic girl in traditional clothing is quite a novelty. So many people took pictures of me, and I even posed with foreigners a few times. There are various tours to Mutianyu Great Wall, but there's a direct bus from Qianmen Street that you can book on the day of your trip. This is a tourist bus operated by the Beijing Tourism Distribution Center, and you can board and alight at Qianmen Street. The journey to the Mutianyu Great Wall ticket gate takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. You can purchase tickets for admission, cable cars, lifts, and slides on the bus, combining them as you wish. Reservations can be made through the WeChat mini-program. While advance reservations weren't possible without a Chinese phone number, I was able to book without any problems after arriving in China. On the day of your trip, simply go directly to the bus stop and show your reservation screen. If your reservation isn't confirmed at this point, you'll be instructed on how to book, and you can purchase it on the spot. The bus seemed to depart between 8:00 and 10:00 AM when it was full. You sit wherever there are empty seats. There are no pockets or drink holders on the seats, so it's best to bring bottled drinks. Bottled water is also available for purchase on the bus. The guide was able to communicate in English, so it was fine even though I don't speak Chinese. I took the cable car from the north ticket gate to Tower 14, climbed up to Tower 20, and then returned down to Tower 6 and descended via the slide. The climb to Tower 6 took about 3 hours, but the slide was more crowded than I expected, and I waited in line for about an hour. I missed my return bus and was worried when I arrived at the meeting point (P4 parking lot) only to find there were no buses left. Fortunately, someone told me I could catch a bus from P5 parking lot, and I was able to board successfully. I got off at Beijing Olympic Park on the way back. It was very convenient as it was a direct route with no transfers. I highly recommend it. · Boarding location: 50 meters west of the South Gate of Zhengyangmen Arrow Tower, Dongcheng District, Beijing · Operating hours: Outbound 08:00-10:00, Return 13:00-16:00. Your Ultimate Helper: The Official App First, download the mini-app on WeChat or Alipay (search for "Universal Beijing Resort"). It's a breeze to navigate the park: it includes a map, schedules, and, most importantly, real-time wait times for rides. 2. Enter with your passport Universal Beijing uses facial recognition and document scanning. You don't need to print tickets—your information is linked to the system when you book on Trip.com. Just bring your original passport. 3. The Magic of Early Entry If you want to experience an empty Hogwarts, consider staying at the on-site hotels (The Universal Studios Grand Hotel or NUO Resort Hotel). Hotel guests receive Early Entry—the opportunity to enter the park one hour before the official opening. During this hour, you can enjoy all the top rides without waiting in line. 4. The "Against the Tide" Strategy Most visitors rush to the Harry Potter zone after entering. Last week I took a comfortable citywalk route, a total of 4.6 kilometers, not rushed or tiring, perfect for half a day to a full day. Starting from Liulichang all the way to Xixinglong Street, I took in the authentic Beijing street life and the spring blossoms, and conveniently stayed nearby. Sharing it with everyone~ 🚇 Transportation: You can get off at Exit C2 of Hepingmen Station on Metro Line 2 or Exit B of Hufangqiao Station on Line 7, both are very convenient. 🗺️ My route: Liulichang ➡️ Yandai Xiejie ➡️ Beijing Fun ➡️ Dashilan ➡️ Qianmen Street ➡️ Xianyukou ➡️ Sanlihe Park ➡️ Xixinglong Street 📷 These spots are a must-stop: 📍Sanlihe Park: The peach blossoms along Sanlihe in March are truly beautiful. Walking along the river, with the spring breeze blowing, petals drift down, rivaling those popular scenic spots. 📍Qianmen Street: Zhengyangmen Arrow Tower has reopened after 35 years! As a landmark building on the central axis, its four floors showcase many intangible cultural heritage crafts, definitely worth a visit. 📍Beijing Fun: On the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Page One bookstore, you can capture Zhengyangmen, the tram, and the Railway Museum all in one frame. Order a coffee, sit down, read a book, and enjoy the view—this afternoon is so healing. 📍Yangmeizhu Xiejie: This street is full of lively local atmosphere, perfectly blending commercialization with old Beijing charm. The alleys hide many interesting small shops. I found a cultural and creative store with a small courtyard inside—what a hidden gem. 📍Dashilan: When tired from walking, come to Dashilan to eat and drink. There are many authentic Beijing snacks and unique cafes to rest in. 🏨 About where to stay— After finishing this route, I stayed at the Beijing Yuecai JW Marriott. Mainly for convenience, the hotel is right outside Xuanwumen Station, very close to the starting point of this route, just a few stops on Metro Line 2. After a full day of walking the streets, exhausted, it’s just a two- or three-minute walk from the subway entrance to collapse on the bed, which is really important! From the room window, you can see the hutongs. In the morning, opening the curtains reveals the rooftops of a traditional courtyard house, connecting with the streets you walked during the day, making all of Beijing feel more intimate. Also, the location is really convenient—not just for this route, but also a few stops away from the Forbidden City, Tiananmen, and Xidan. Perfect for those who don’t want to change hotels and want to save energy for exploring.

Witness to Half of Qing Dynasty History, Prince Gong's Mansion is the largest princely residence from the Qing Dynasty. It was once the home of Heshen and later passed down to Prince Qing Yonglin and Prince Gong Yixu, encapsulating the Qing Dynasty's rise and fall. Must-See "Three Wonders and One Treasure": 1. Western-Style Gate: A white marble archway, the only Western-style gate remaining in Beijing's princely mansions, exquisitely carved. The plaques "Calm as the Ancient" and "Elegant Embracing Eternal Spring" subtly reflect the owner's realm. 2. Grand Opera Stage: A fully enclosed ancient opera stage built entirely with mortise and tenon joints without nails. Underneath the stage are nine large jars to enhance resonance, creating what can be called Qing Dynasty's "high-end surround stereo." 3. Rear Covered Building: Heshen's "Treasure House," with 99 and a half rooms, each window uniquely shaped corresponding to different treasures, known as an ancient "coded vault." Blessing Character Stele: Inscribed by Emperor Kangxi with the character "Fu" (Blessing), symbolizing "many children, many fields, many talents, long life, and great fortune." Touching the stele to receive blessings is a must-do experience. Practical Information: 1. Opening Hours: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (last entry at 4:10 PM), closed on Mondays (except public holidays). Note: Closed on Mondays! 2. Tickets: Adult 40 RMB/person, Student 20 RMB/person, Military personnel 20 RMB (active duty). Recommended Tour Route (2-hour highlights): 1. Palace Gate - Yin'an Hall The main gate of the mansion with three bays and stone lions. Yin'an Hall is the main hall, now a Qing Dynasty princely mansion cultural exhibition, grand and imposing. 2. Duofu Pavilion - Ledao Hall - Jiale Hall Duofu Pavilion: The mansion's living room, with century-old wisteria in the courtyard blooming beautifully in spring and summer. Ledao Hall: Prince Gong's living quarters, full of life atmosphere. Jiale Hall: A place for worship, with a plaque reading "Jiale Hall," said to be a gift from Emperor Qianlong. 3. Baoguang Room - Xijin Studio - Rear Covered Building Xijin Studio: Built by Heshen imitating the Ning Shou Palace of the Forbidden City, housing a golden nanmu "Immortal Tower," extremely luxurious. A single piece of golden nanmu wood can be valued up to 272. Rear Covered Building: The mansion's "treasure," over 160 meters long with 108 rooms, commonly called "99 and a half rooms," said to be the treasure storage place. The window shapes vary and are said to be treasure recognition codes. 4. Western-Style Gate - Dule Peak - Bat Pool - Anshan Hall Western-Style Gate: White marble archway blending Chinese and Western styles, a perfect photo backdrop. Dule Peak: A Taihu stone rockery resembling a woman holding a baby, known as the "Stone of the Child-Giving Guanyin." Bat Pool: Shaped like a bat, and since "bat" sounds like "fortune" in Chinese, it symbolizes "bringing in fortune and wealth." 5. Grand Opera Stage - Blessing Character Stele - Yaoyue Terrace - Yuguan Grand Opera Stage: Fully enclosed pure wooden structure without nails or rivets, with amazing acoustics where even a whisper at the center echoes. Blessing Character Stele: Emperor Kangxi's calligraphy of "Fu," hidden in the Secret Cloud Cave. Touch the stele from top to bottom to receive blessings. A trip to Beijing without stopping by Beijing Zoo? No way—this is the place to meet China’s cutest stars 🐼 and soak up a touch of old-city charm! Here’s how to make the most of your visit: ⌛️The best time to go is spring or fall: the weather is pleasant, the grounds are lush and green, and the animals are easier to spot. Arrive right when the zoo opens (7:30 in both winter and summer) if you want to catch the giant pandas while they’re active: they usually spend 8:30 to 10:30 eating bamboo or wandering around, then head off to the shade. The pandas have their own pavilion, and sometimes a separate ticket is required (a combo ticket is around 19 yuan), so keep that in mind! 🐼Plan for at least 4 hours: start with the pandas, then move on to the small mammals, polar bears, lions and tigers, elephants, giraffes, golden monkeys, and a wide variety of birds in cozy enclosures framed by traditional Chinese architecture. The zoo has an old-school, handmade feel that history lovers will appreciate: some enclosures are a bit compact and the facilities feel dated, but that’s part of its charm. 🚇Getting there is easy: take Metro Line 4 to Dongwuyuan Station, right by the entrance. 🍽️It’s better not to buy food inside the zoo—bring your own snack, and absolutely do not feed the animals! 💡Tip: be ready for lots of walking and changing weather—an umbrella can come in handy even on a sunny day.
