[Summer 2023☀ Bangkok, Thailand] 📍Overall impression Wat Arun was the last stop of my trip to Bangkok. After changing our clothes at a nearby Thai clothing store, we walked to Wat Arun. After passing through the main gate, the entire Wat Arun comes into view: it looks like a large mosaic craft with white as the main color, which is very eye-catching under the strong sunlight. The building is very magnificent with countless exquisitely carved colorful patterns and ceramic decorations. The temple is filled with statues of different gods, each with different expressions and delicate faces. To reach the main tower, you need to climb a steep staircase. We were wearing Thai clothes and were very cautious in every step. However, visitors can only reach the first floor of the main tower and cannot go up any higher. 📍Background Information Wat Arun was built during the reign of King Mongkut during the Ayutthaya period. It is the oldest building on the Chao Phraya River today and a famous landmark in Bangkok. The central main tower is 82 meters high and is composed of multiple square bases and tower bodies stacked together, with four accompanying towers built next to it. Due to its historical significance, Wat Arun is engraved on the back of the 10 baht coin and has become one of the symbolic buildings in the minds of Thai people. 📍Extended experience——wearing Thai clothes Wearing local ethnic costumes has become an emerging tourist activity in recent years. In addition to experiencing exotic cultures, it is also an experience of traveling through time and space. After all, "clothing" is an important cultural symbol, and its design and materials must contain its meaning and reasons. For example, Thai clothing, regardless of gender, uses a three-meter-long and one-meter-wide cloth called "sarong" to wrap the lower body. Women's clothing is also called sarong skirt, which is commonly seen in Southeast Asia. At the same time, most of the decorative patterns of Thai clothing are derived from nature, such as the "flame pattern" and "vine pattern" taken from the shape of flowers. And to suit the hot weather, Thai clothing is made of light and airy fabrics, and is simple and easy to wear in layers. 📍Little surprise I personally feel that wearing traditional clothing while visiting traditional buildings seems to make you more engaged and interested, and even makes you feel more integrated and no longer feel out of place or like a stranger.
