#SummerCampaign The Pont Saint-Bénézet, a 12th-century bridge spanning the Rhône River, became world-famous after serving as the inspiration for the French national song, "On the Pont d'Avignon." Originally, it boasted a tower 900 meters away, but due to repeated wars and flooding of the Rhône River, restoration work was halted after the 17th century, leaving only four piers and a chapel. The original 22 arches are no longer visible, and only part of the bridge remains. The Pont Saint-Bénézet is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Historic Centre of Avignon.
