#SummerCampaign Avignon is a city in the Provence region in southeastern France, located along the Rhône River. It takes approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes by TGV from Paris Gare de Lyon to Avignon TGV Station. Upon exiting Avignon Central Station, Rue de la République unfolds before your eyes, surrounded by the Porte de la République and 4.3km of city walls. This alone is awe-inspiring. This street is the main thoroughfare, passing through the Place de l'Horloge, where the City Hall is located, and beyond that the Palais des Papes. The old town, with its cobblestone streets that retain a strong medieval atmosphere and streets lined with beautiful architecture, makes you feel as if you've traveled back in time. The lush, green streetscapes are beautiful! ✨ The food was also more affordable and delicious than in Paris! ✨ Avignon In the early 14th century, King Philip IV of France brought Pope Clement V to Avignon. From 1309 to 1377, the city served as the seat of the papacy for 69 years across seven generations, making it the center of Christianity. It remained under papal rule until it became part of France in 1791. Magnificent buildings, including the Papal Palace, the Pope's residence, were built one after another, and Renaissance artists and scholars flocked to the city from all over Europe, thriving as a major center of art and culture. #Provence #TravelFrance
