Review of Sunway Hotel, George Town I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Sunway Hotel in George Town, and I was thoroughly impressed with its prime location, making it incredibly convenient to explore the surrounding attractions. One standout feature was the spaciousness of the room, which far exceeded what you typically find in newly developed hotels. While the decor and finishing did feel somewhat dated, it was evident that the hotel has been very well maintained, ensuring a clean and comfortable stay. Overall, the combination of a great location, roomy accommodations, and excellent upkeep makes the Sunway Hotel a solid choice for travelers.

My wife and I stayed 4 nights here recently. Highlights: - Prime location in the heart of Georgetown—walking distance to shopping malls, eateries, and key attractions. - Reliable high-speed internet, ideal for both work and leisure. - Complimentary parking with a convenient license plate recognition system. - Warm, courteous staff who go the extra mile to assist. - Breakfast spread was impressive—varied, fresh, and satisfying. On the negative side: - Room size is quite small, which may not suit guests seeking spacious accommodation. - Unusual housekeeping policy: rooms are only cleaned once every two days, which may not meet expectations for daily upkeep. Overall Verdict: While the location and amenities are commendable, the limited room space and infrequent cleaning schedule detract from the overall experience. For the price point, it falls short of delivering full value for money.

This is our second time stay at Gurnay Bay.. Our room was large with a lovely sea view, clean, comfortable, and the mini bar was free. The pool was good enough for fun time, our kid really loved it. The staff were friendly and helpfull. The only thing that could be improved are the TV and the wifi. Other than that, every things was great..

Stayed here for a third year in a row. Always chose hotel as its very near SPICE Convention Centre. Breakfast standards have dropped. There's a weird smell in the lobby and toilet. Overall stay good, but not a 5 star standard. Hope that you can improve as there are many new hotels building in the area.

I stayed at Loop On Leith for 3 nights in a deluxe room. The room had a window, though the view wasn’t the best, it still made the space feel brighter and more comfortable. The location of the hotel is excellent – very convenient for exploring George Town on foot, with plenty of food, attractions, and shops nearby. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always welcoming, which made the stay even more pleasant. Overall, it’s a good choice if you’re looking for a comfortable stay in a great location.

The room is quite small, but it offers a lovely view. It's very clean, although we didn’t have enough space to store all our shopping bags. :) Mr Putasnen Nagadaran was exceptionally helpful and proactive. He made sure my early check-in request was fulfilled with a clean room ready upon arrival, and he even greeted me by name when he saw me in the corridor while he was checking other rooms. He took the time to respond to my email sent late at night—while I was out during the day—with detailed information about nearby parking options in case the hotel’s lot was full. We’ll be returning because of Mr Putasnen’s outstanding service, not because of the hotel itself. Mr Putasnen - Please take care of yourself and don't overwork :)

We booked two rooms and had an outstanding experience at this hotel. Although both rooms were the same type (21m²), Room 1615 felt more spacious than Room 1609. The location is excellent, just a short walk to the night street food market on Lebuh Presgrave, 12 minutes to Cecil Market, and 8 minutes to the 24-hour McDonald's at Birch House. There’s also a hidden bar, Good Friend Club, less than 100 meters from the hotel entrance, and another one, Magazine 63, about 10 minutes away, across from 1st Avenue Mall. Just 2 minutes away is GAMA Supermarket, which includes a small pharmacy and bakery—very convenient for anything you need. 5 min away from Komtar also. Opposite hotel is the Hin Bus Depot. The rooms were clean and the air conditioning worked well. However, the bathroom exhaust fan was quite loud (though manageable if turned off after use), and the room lighting was a bit dim—adding a floor or table lamp would be helpful. The water heater took about 3 minutes to produce hot water, which could be improved to reduce water waste. Soundproofing wasn’t the best, as I could hear the neighboring shower, but it wasn’t a major issue for me. The hotel has a gym and swimming pool @ roof top level-25, though we didn’t have time to use them. The facilities well-maintained. Overall, we had a great stay. The staff and security were friendly and welcoming. Keep up the great work and continue maintaining the cleanliness and service standards! This hotel tends to get fully booked quickly. If you want to book this Hotel, please plan and book early Will stay again when I go Penang next time.

My check-in experience was seamless – I arrived early in the morning and was pleasantly surprised when the staff kindly arranged an early check-in. I also dined at the restaurant on my arrival day, where the food was very good and the staff were exceptionally attentive and kind. Housekeeping staff were friendly and responsive, though a little more training would help improve consistency with details such as clearing dustbins, cleaning drains, and replenishing amenities. Upon arrival, I noticed a stain on the bed linen, but the team attended to it immediately and replaced everything, showing great service recovery. Overall, these were only minor issues and did not affect my stay. What stood out most was the excellent customer service – the staff’s warmth and helpfulness made my stay truly enjoyable.

🌟 Cititel Express Penang — Snug, Convenient, and Worth Considering 📍 Prime Location Nestled in the heart of Georgetown at 123 Lebuh Noordin, Cititel Express Penang boasts a top-tier location that’s a dream for anyone eager to explore the city’s iconic food spots, Komtar, and nearby malls—all within easy walking distance . Guests consistently rave about its convenience for eating, shopping, and sightseeing . 🛏 Room Size: Compact Yet Clean The rooms here are undeniably small—some describe them as “tiny” or “narrow”—but they tend to be clean, modern, and functional, especially ideal for short stays or solo travellers . That said, if you’re planning a long stay or value spaciousness, you might feel a bit cramped. 🚗 Complimentary Parking A rare plus in central Penang—parking is free for hotel guests. The Cititel Express shares a secure multi-story car park with St. Giles Wembley, and parking comes with no charge for Cititel Express guests . Do note, though, that a few guests have mentioned occasional hiccups with the parking ticket system, requiring a quick stop at reception to get it reissued . 👍 Service, Cleanliness & Value Most reviews highlight friendly and helpful staff, comfortable beds, strong value-for-money pricing, and acceptable cleanliness standards for a budget-friendly city hotel . While the facilities are basic, guests didn’t mention major complaints beyond the room size . ⚠️ Noise & Thin Walls Light sleepers should be aware: the rooms tend to have minimal soundproofing, and sounds from neighbouring rooms or the corridor can be noticeable

Our first time visiting Penang, was greeted warmly by the staffs of The Granite Luxury Hotel. love the space by lobby, didn't feel overwhelmed by crowd n nice area for photo taking. Room is comfortable n clean with adequate toiletries in bathroom. My only issue is the Wi-Fi don't seems to work as well and the rooftop bar look sad n too warm to sit out. Generally a conveniently located hotel that's walking distance to lots to do and eat

66399399My recent stay in the Heritage Wing completely redefined my perception of heritage hotels – it's not just a vessel of history, but a dual feast of aesthetics and service! **📸 A Photographer's Paradise: Every Shot is a Movie Poster** Stepping into the room, I was instantly captivated: vintage louvered windows filtered soft sunlight, and the sapphire-blue sea view of the Strait of Malacca was framed like an oil painting. Every photo looks effortlessly stunning, as if it already has a built-in filter! The room retains classic 19th-century Straits Settlement colonial elements – black and white tiled floors, brass ceiling fans, carved dressing tables – every corner tells a story. My absolute favorite was the **century-old elevator**, intricately crafted with brass accents and wood grain; photos taken here feel like a journey back to a scene from ”In the Mood for Love.” The Heritage Wing pool was another delightful surprise; blue and white tiles reflecting palm trees. As dusk falls, the sunset casts a golden glow, and every snap turns into a magazine spread! From the arches of the sea-facing promenade to the antique bathtub in the Writer's Suite, even the best lighting times for photos are noted. Every morning, a **handwritten newspaper** hangs on the doorknob, there's complimentary **red wine and soft drinks** in the mini-bar, and the precisely timed **Heritage Wing exclusive Happy Hour** in the evening (sparkling wine with goat cheese was divine!). These details speak volumes of the old-world charm and meticulous craftsmanship. **🌊 Immerse Yourself in Living History, Where Even the Sea Breeze Whispers Tales** Sitting on the sea-facing terrace, leafing through the hotel's historical records detailing Sun Yat-sen's five stays, and sipping on English black tea, amidst the sound of waves, one could almost hear the rustle of Maugham's pen writing here. The **privacy** in the Heritage Wing far exceeded my expectations; with fewer crowds and beautiful scenery, the pool was almost entirely ours, perfectly avoiding the tourist rush. The freshly made **Penang Char Kway Teow** for breakfast had incredible 'wok hei' (smoky wok flavor). Eating outdoors with my plate (watch out for crows trying to snatch food!), with the colonial promenade's arches behind me and an endless sea view before me – such a morning deserves to be captured in a hundred photos! **✨ Tips for Future Guests** - **Room Selection Tip**: Definitely request a high-floor sea-view suite (avoid lower-floor street-facing rooms to minimize noise). - **Golden Photography Hours**: 7-9 AM for soft light filtering through the promenade; 6 PM for sunset 'blue hour' by the pool. - **Hidden Perk**: Heritage Wing guests have complimentary access to the Victory Annexe's infinity pool, doubling your photo opportunities! This trip, The Eastern & Oriental Hotel has transcended mere ”accommodation.” It's a living fossil of Straits Chinese charm, a benchmark for the art of hospitality, and a compelling reason to fly to Penang specifically for it! Next time, I must bring a cheongsam to capture this old-world romance even more deeply through my lens! ✨

MMrs Loh AAn Amazing Stay at Angsana Teluk Bahang! We had an incredible experience at Angsana Teluk Bahang. The beachfront location is stunning, the premier rooms are spacious with breathtaking sea views, and the infinity pool is perfect for relaxing. Staff were warm, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The food—especially the breakfast and tea —was delicious and beautifully presented and refreshes daily. The Angsana Spa was a relaxing treat for all of us. All our stress melted away as deft hands worked their way. Every detail, from the Peranakan decor to the service, reflected quality and care. An Ideal site for a romantic getaway or family escape. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

GGuest UserLooking at the review of hotels in Malaysia, there seem to be tons of people giving negative reviews for almost every hotel so was pretty wary of booking this hotel and all the other ones I stayed at! However, I found that this was a decent hotel albeit with some minor problems. To start with the good. The hotel is well constructed, by that I mean the rooms and walls are made of good material so that generally sound from other rooms or outside is not an issue. This is my main concern, because you must be able to sleep peacefully or live in your room without being disturbed by neighbours or the outside, that should be the primary goal of any hotel. The room size is also very large, although I found small things like the funny diagonal shaped desk not to be practical because it was too small to use comfortably. Also, you cannot connect your laptop to the TV with and HDMI because the TV is fixed to the wall. I had some small issues with a blocked basin and the shower hose was broken, but these were resolved after a couple of visits. I needed to persuade maintenance man to change the hose, which I thought was strange as it was obviously broken. He called in housekeeping afterwards to clean up some of the water on the floor that came from the work. The cleaner used one of the body towels to wipe up the water. I said that he should at least use the floor towel and not the ones for the body. He said it was ”Just water”. As someone who is prone to eczema, I have to be careful about detergents and what I put on my skin. If this is something that house cleaning do regularly, this would be a problem for me. (I did start getting some skin issues here, but cannot say for certain it was due to the hotel). There was also some old stains on the bed sheets that I had to ask to be changed. Bed sheets like that need to be either bleached or thrown away. They may not pose any health risks but no one wants to sleep on visibly stained sheets. Also, the small sofa bench on at the foot of the bed was heavily stained and really needs to be re-furbished. The breakfast was okay. I remember the dining area which is nice, but not much of the actual food. I just like eggs, toast, fruit and coffee. The check-in is on the 20th floor, so you will probably only see the managers when you check-in and when you check-out. I had a nice Indian lady check me in. I saw one other man manager, portly Indian man, there when I tried to extend by one night, who I found to be less friendly. I would stay here again, as the problems were minor. (I also stayed at the Citadines, which I absolutely do not recommend).

GGuest UserUnexpected Gem near Penang Airport! Booked last-minute after a flight cancellation – this 3-star airport hotel exceeded all expectations: - 🚗 Location Perfection: Just 5 mins from airport with free 24/7 airport transfer (lifesaver after car return!). - 👨👩👧👦 Family Heaven: Great fun pool with water slides kept kids ecstatic (rare for 3-star!). - 🛏️ Spacious, clean rooms – better than Georgetown’s 4-star we tried! Small Notes: - ❌ No in-room hairdryer. You can ask for it tho. M - ❌ Pool towels couldn’t be taken to rooms (kids got chilly!). **Verdict**: **Outshines pricier options** – would 100% rebook!
