Great hotel to stay at. Rooms were clean though small and the hotel is in a convenient location. There is not on site parking but they have a partnership with a nearby carpark for a discounted rate.
Public onsen available with room control panel viewing of how crowded it is.
Absolutely fantastic! Highly recommended it to anyone going to Beppu. The location is very convenient, right next to Beppu Station. It's easy to get there from anywhere. The family room has four single beds with a partition in the middle, and the whole family agreed that this was the best hotel we stayed at during our entire trip to Kyushu. The breakfast offers many options, and in the evening, there are ramen and ice cream. Although we didn't have time to wait for the private hot spring, the public baths were very satisfying! There are both outdoor and indoor baths, allowing us to completely relax after a tiring day. This hotel is definitely a must-stay when visiting Beppu.

Fantastic stay at Yufuin Kotobuki Hananosho! The kaiseki meals were exceptional—fresh local ingredients, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. Our room was spotless and comfortable, with a view over the valley. Perfectly located for strolling Yufuin’s charming streets and hitting the hot springs. Highly recommend for anyone wanting great food and easy access to sights!
The room wasn't huge, but we still had ample space to open our suitcases.
**Cleanliness**: Japanese hotels consistently uphold incredibly high standards of cleanliness!
**Facilities**: The large public bath was a definite bonus! The rooftop open-air onsen, a genuine carbonated hot spring, was incredibly relaxing. Soaking there while idly gazing at the distant harbor was pure bliss.
**Location**: The surrounding area offered fantastic convenience for exploring, with an abundance of shopping and dining options that catered to every preference.
This is the best hotel during my trip though the hotel room is really small for two person with two luggages. Sparkling clean, everything looks new. The hotel staffs are really friendly, polite and kind. Breakfast is very good, they have free alcohol testing from 6pm to 9pm! Less than 5 minutes walk from Beppu Station, very convenient. They also have natural hot spring but did not manage to use it.
I've stayed at Beppu Kamenoi Hotel multiple times, and it consistently delivers a great experience. The hotel is quite large. While it's an older property and some of the facilities show their age, it's very well-maintained and impeccably clean. The hotel's onsen (hot springs) are a major highlight – absolutely fantastic for melting away fatigue. Inside the hotel, there are several restaurants, all serving delicious food at reasonable prices. Its location is superb, just a few minutes' walk from the JR station, making it incredibly convenient for travel. We made good use of our JR Pass to easily visit Oita and Kokura.
This is an older hotel, and while the decor and furnishings show their age, everything is functional and well-maintained. It's a good option if you don't mind a slightly dated aesthetic.
**Pros:** The location is incredibly convenient, with plenty of restaurants nearby that stay open late. The hotel has an elevator, and parking is free. A very generous buffet breakfast is included, and there's also a large public bath. A significant bonus is its ability to accommodate large families, even groups of up to ten people!
The atmosphere was very relaxing and chill — perfect for couple and a group getaway. The staff were friendly and very helpful throughout our stay. One little thing - the bathroom door of this room type is somehow translucent sliding door, no lock, which can be a bit uncomfortable when staying with a group. A normal one would offer more privacy. Overall, a great experience!
Excellent!
Awesome lobby, incredible seaview, great service, competent and very polite staff, good food, room very clean, onsen is great with free branded amenities choices 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. location is a bit off, fortunately have shuttle.
Special thanks to Harada san 👍🏻👍🏻 helped to arrange smooth transfer from hotel to airport.
Appreciate the hospitality from quite a number of multilingual staff 👏🏻👏🏻. Onsen is great, unlimited free drinks! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻coffee, coke, green tea, etc 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Breakfast is good, value for money, nice to try. Dinner is 90-mins semi buffet, no choice for the set, special arrangement if you don’t eat beef, but take some time. Lots of wine varieties, if you don’t drink alcohol, the dinner price is NOT worth.
My comment: Highly recommended. need to have car, my case is with sudden car break down with no replacement. Grandvrio did a great job!👏🏻👏🏻
This hotel is very convenient if you are taking bus from Hakata Bus Terminal. It stopped right in front of the hotel. Inside the hotel, it has tourist information counter where tourists can buy bus pass etc. Room and toilet are small and is common in Japan, but they are clean and stay is comfortable. They have 1 indoor and outdoor onsen. Opposite the hotel is a departmental store and is 10 mins walk to Beppu train station. Beppu tower is just a short distance walk from hotel. If you are taking a bus to Yifuin, bus stop 1 is just nearby, opposite direction of hotel. I will recommend this hotel if you are coming to Beppu.

GGuest UserThe view is superb and the footbath facing the sea is so relaxing. The room is spacious with comfortable tatami, but lighting is not quite enough at night.
AAnonymous UserThe hotel is conveniently located right next to Oita Station, making it extremely easy to get around. In the evenings, the hotel provides complimentary ramen. Additionally, the supermarket within AMU PLAZA, located right at the station, offers discounted food items before closing. Overall, staying here makes dining, accommodation, and transportation incredibly convenient.
SSikiqiThis hotel is perfectly located right in the heart of Beppu's Hells, with attractions literally on its doorstep. All five Hells (Jigoku) are within a 3-5 minute walk, which is incredibly convenient!
While the hotel's exterior is unassuming, its interior is a hidden gem. The Japanese garden in the common areas is beautiful. Our room was spacious with a great view, allowing us to see the steam rising from the Hells. Plus, having a private onsen in the room meant we could soak to our heart's content! We even had the large public bath all to ourselves during our visit.
The Teppanyaki set meal we booked was a good experience, though we wished there was a little more meat.
We specifically requested Japanese-style breakfast when booking, but for some reason, we were given Western-style instead. When we inquired, the staff informed us that it couldn't be changed.
On a very positive note, it was our wedding anniversary trip, and the hotel thoughtfully prepared a small gift and took commemorative photos for us – a very nice touch! Aside from these minor issues, everything else was fantastic.
The only real downside was the hotel's shuttle service to the station. While they offer it, the last departure is strictly before 11 AM. If you miss it, you have to take a taxi. It feels a bit inconvenient to offer a service with such a limited timeframe. For instance, we visited the Hells in the morning and ended up leaving the hotel after 11 AM, so we had to take a taxi to the JR station. An improvement here would be much appreciated!
Overall, my husband, who was visiting Japan for the first time, said it was an excellent Japanese onsen hotel experience. He gives it a big thumbs up!
SSara ArdeliaThe closest hotel to Harmonyland which allows you to take taxi to and from the theme park at a reasonable price.
The hotel basically provides everything from snacks, drinks and meals all day including dinner and breakfast, everything was excellent. I was aware that Mercure is an international hotel chain thus the vibes of the hotel itself can’t truly be entirely Japanese. However, I was still very satisfied with my stay overall.
I was so lucky to see some cherry blossom trees still in their peak at the hotel parking lot while the peak of most other trees in different areas had already passed.
The hotel also offers free shuttle from and to Beppu Station which we found to be very helpful.
GGuest UserExcellent!

GGuest UserAdvantages: Private bath, nice scenery, good service from staff, no problem in communicating in English, Chinese and Mandarin! The Oita Wagyu beef in Kaiseki cuisine is very delicious, and the price-performance ratio is very good. The Oita chicken tastes above average! Evening kaiseki excellent breakfast is ok!
Disadvantages: The location is on a higher mountain! You have to get there first, as the public baths are relatively ordinary! No scenery! A private spa will be more beautiful! In addition, there is no independent toilet, if the weather is very cold! I don’t want to have to go to a public bathhouse to take a shower in the freezing wind in a private room. In addition, because it is a suburban area, there will be more insects that may crawl into the house.

GGuest UserHotel surroundings and cleanliness was top notch.
Dinner and breakfast set were amazingly tasteful and filling. Food served was fresh and served based on our eating pace. All the staff are all well versed with English and friendly with our request.
The onsen itself was great but the entrance to the men and ladies onsen was just next to each other. Ladies privacy could be easily violated as the main door was the see-through type. We were not feeling quite comfortable with the entrance layout.
GGuest UserWe had a great 2 nights stay at this Ryokan. Location was near Yufuin Floral Village, and around 20 mins walk from Yufuin JR station. It was a nice walk to Yufuin JR station as there were many shops and eateries that you can visit along the way. Alternatively, there is also bus 36 from Yufuin but terminal that would stop near to the ryokan.
The staff were really outstanding, friendly and helpful. When we arrived, a couple of them rushed to help us with our luggage and to also shelter us from the rain. During the entire stay, they made us feel very welcomed.
The Western/Japanese room that we booked was very spacious and had all the amenities we required. Note that this is a 2 storey living area - level 1 had a bathroom with private indoor and outdoor onsen as well as the living room, while level 2 had a toilet (w/o bath) and 1 western bedroom as well as 1 Japanese bedroom.
There are 4 public onsen in the ryokan. 2 for female and 2 for male. They would rotate it during the day and night to allow everyone to try out the different onsen.
We also had our breakfast and dinner at the ryokan as part of the package. The dishes were different on both days. The spread was huge and food tasted great. Note that there are very few places open at Yufuin during dinner time.
ZzhangcjThis hotel is really nice. The room is big, with two tatami rooms. There is floor heating under the tatami, so it's not cold even if you walk barefoot on the tatami. There is a private hot spring in the room. We booked a breakfast-only package, which was also good, and there was even grilled fish. The whole hotel is small, with a stream running through the whole yard. The most unexpected thing is that guests can boil eggs in hot spring water for free.
GGuest UserThe hotel is older! The service condition is acceptable! The hotel staff took the initiative to help! The important thing is free parking! The price also comes with breakfast! Except for the poor sound insulation, there is nothing to fault!
