Xining Chengdong District Hotels

My experience at this international chain hotel was truly disappointing. 1. The hotel's own 6th-floor restaurant had poor food hygiene. My family of three ordered food to our room using the hotel's QR code. The next day, both adults experienced diarrhea; I had it 6 times. (On the day we ordered, we only had breakfast at a hotel by Qinghai Lake, then drove around sightseeing without eating any main meals, and only ordered food after checking into this hotel in the evening. We didn't eat anything else after that meal). 2. Around 9:35 AM, someone had locked themselves in the 8th-floor laundry room and was smoking inside. Holiday Inn is supposed to be a non-smoking hotel. 3. The hotel room card had the room number written on it with a sticker. This is a security risk. If a guest loses their room card outside, anyone who finds it could easily figure out which room it belongs to.

Took us some time to understand how things function in the room, but we finally got it. We missed the AC most. Although the city is at almost 2300 m alttitude, it can get hot in the summer and there's only a narrow window in the room. Too little to cool it over the night. No fridge means no cold drinks either. And also the shower nozzle is not fully functional. Water is fighting its way out of that 😵 But there is a nice lobby and also the room looks good. We did get a surprise snack around 10.00 pm. All put together I would say 'Better try one of the other hotels in the neighbourhood.'

It was well worth the effort to carefully select this hotel in Xining. The facilities are comprehensive and new. Its location is central to all attractions, yet not directly on a main road, making it very convenient – a quiet oasis in a bustling area. The breakfast was decent, and both the front desk and room service were excellent. The room's air conditioning is a central system, so the temperature (hot/cold) couldn't be adjusted. With Xining being a bit chilly in the mornings and evenings, it was actually warmer with the AC turned off these past few days.

On this business trip to Xining, I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Xining Chengdong the entire time, and my overall experience was fantastic. I have to especially commend Julie at the front desk; her meticulous service made me feel incredibly welcome. The hotel is located on Bayi East Road in Chengdong District, right next to Wuyue Plaza, making dining and shopping very convenient. It's also not far from the highway entrance and Xining Station, which is great for both driving and public transport. As a newly opened hotel, the lobby design is elegant, and the room amenities are brand new and complete. The floor-to-ceiling windows offer a wide view, and the room was spotlessly clean. The 24-hour gym and self-service laundry facilities are well-equipped, and the breakfast buffet offers a rich variety, including local Qinghai specialties like yak yogurt and甜醅 (sweet fermented oats). I arrived feeling exhausted in the evening after a long journey. Julie greeted me with a constant smile and efficiently handled the check-in process. Seeing my heavy luggage, she proactively offered to help carry it and patiently explained the room facilities, Wi-Fi password, laundry room, and breakfast times. When I casually asked about self-driving routes to Qinghai Lake and local food spots, she patiently outlined an itinerary, even recommending niche attractions and reminding me about precautions for high-altitude travel. When my room card stopped working, I contacted the front desk and Julie came to resolve the issue within minutes, without any pretense. Her service was professional yet down-to-earth throughout, without any rigid formalities; she genuinely thought about the guests. While good hardware is a hotel's foundation, warm service is what truly adds value. Thanks to Julie's thoughtful service, my travel fatigue disappeared. I'll definitely choose this hotel again on my next visit to Xining, and I highly recommend it to everyone!

The location is good, and the rooms are large, spacious, and clean; they're perfectly fine for several people. The only downside is parking; you need to find a parking lot separately as there isn't one specifically for the hotel. However, the price is very reasonable.

Loved the laundry room. You are able to check the availability of the dryer or washing machine from your room via the tv. And also washing/drying time of your load. The staff comes in often to check the machines and unloads the completed washing. The buffet breakfast spread was impressive and I loved the coffee machine there! Staff were friendly and attentive to your queries and needs. Overall I will come back to this hotel if I visit xining again

The price really threw me off, it didn't match my expectations for an Orange Hotel. It was comparable to their hotels in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai. I figured it was due to peak season, which I could understand, even though there aren't many tourists this year. The main issue was the air conditioning, which was on a timed schedule, but I couldn't even use it. The pipe was in the ceiling right by the entrance, and I guess air got trapped, because there was a constant draining noise. It woke me up after I'd finally fallen asleep at night. I couldn't take it anymore. At 12:42 AM, I called the front desk, and a technician came up to turn off the valve. Manual silence, I guess... Then I had to rush out for my itinerary early the next morning. 😫 My bad, I was out exploring all day and got back to the room too late to notice the issue sooner. Three days later, back in Xining, I downgraded to a budget hotel, and wow, it was actually pretty good!

Hilton's quality is consistently reliable. The rooms come standard with humidifiers, perfect for the dry高原 climate. There's 24-hour laundry (washer and dryer in one). Breakfast includes yak yogurt and ga mian pian (local noodles). It's super convenient for visiting Ta'er Monastery and Qinghai Lake. Located on a main thoroughfare in Chengdong District, parking is free and ample. Upon check-in, they offer hot ginger tea to help with altitude sickness. The bedding is soft and the soundproofing is excellent. It's a top choice for a rest stop on a road trip.

The location is great, with plenty of good food options nearby. The owner is also very nice and helped us store and retrieve our luggage. The only minor issue was the air conditioner being a bit noisy, but the owner promptly checked it after we reported it. Overall, it's a good place and not expensive.

Arrived in the morning, and since the train from Xining to Hangzhou was about 5 hours away, I chose an all-season hotel near Xining Railway Station and booked a 4-hour hourly room. All-season hotels are a national chain, and their service and other aspects are quite good. I usually choose them for my travels, and this time in Xining, I wasn't disappointed!
