The Hongkou neighborhood is very quiet (compared to other neighborhoods in Shanghai). It's residential, so there aren't as many people as in other places. It's just a couple of blocks from a giant park called Luxun Park, which is very convenient for resting, walking, or visiting. There are many shops of all kinds around the hotel, which makes it convenient. I've visited many hotels in China, and they're all quite similar (normal Chinese hotels, not the 5-star chain hotels or the like). The only problem (which all hotels have) is that the staff doesn't speak English, but with a cell phone translator, it's very easy to make yourself understood. They were very friendly. The breakfast was varied (Chinese food) and delicious. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the bathrooms were clean, and the housekeeping was very good. I recommend this hotel.
