Solitaire Lodge
4.8/530 Reviews
Wayne & Ingrid - Lodge Owners are hands on and incredibly attentive. The Lodge is clean and comfortable. The towels are super plush and the bathroom amenities are Molton Brown. Food is 5 Star! Chef’s are outstanding. We went trout fishing with Bob - we caught 15 pounds of trout. Bob was funny, informative and probably the best fisherman in Rotarura. The boat is big, comfortable and has excellent fishing equipment and technology. Our preplanned cycling tour got canceled. Wayne stepped up and found us an alternative and I must say it was the highlight of our trip so far in NZ. The bikes were top notch and the mountain bike trails were incredible with all levels accommodated for.
Pullman Rotorua

Stayed here for 2 nights with my family including an infant. Room was pretty spacious. Staff was friendly. Unfortunately, there seems to be bed bugs or dust mites on the floor carpet as I got plenty of bites around my ankle. Went ahead to inform the front desk but I was told that there were absolutely no bed bugs in the hotel. Overall room is ok except for the cleanliness.
Newina Rotorua
4.2/586 Reviews
Newina is a medium sized hotel, located 5 minutes away from towns centre The manager was very helpful and had excellent knowledge of tourist attractions in the area. The room was spotlessly clean and we were delighted to see a private courtyard with a huge spa. There is also a swimming pool and small conference room. Full laundry facility located on the ground floor. Very affordable and we will definitely stay again
Treetops Lodge & Estate

I think the room is nice. The food is very good. The hotel staff felt very good. It was a first class hotel.
Black Swan Lakeside Boutique Hotel
4.6/552 Reviews
This hotel has a good environment and good hygiene. The boss is Chinese, so he takes every detail into consideration. The Bannick salmon in the morning was delicious. It's a 5-minute drive from the town center. You can call a taxi for SGD 20. The only problem is that the room rates are quite high compared to other hotels in town. You can consider it if you are not short of money, and the experience is good.
Hana Lodge
4.7/528 Reviews
This was a borderline 4 star hotel, but a bit expensive at that. The grounds are nice with animals and a nice bamboo forest. The room is pretty comfortable and staff (that were on site - it is limited staff) were friendly. However there are a few things lacking that make it a 4 star rather than 5 star. - the website advertises a ‘Michelin star formulated’ 4 course dinner, but in reality it is a cold plated dinner with only a staff of one chef in the kitchen with one waitress. We were told there was a private event at the sister hotel black swan, and suspect that the main chef and staff were catering that party. The same chef cooked breakfast which was fine for a simple breakfast but resources and quality were insufficient for a 4 course $105 dinner. We didn’t eat at the restaurant the next night. - lack of facilities/activities within the lodge. There is a dated pool table, one exercise bike and rowing machine in a cold room. There is also a room with board games to take but nowhere to play them. The lodge could do with organising more activities or partnering with nearby attractions, particularly in the winter when the pool can’t be used. They only have pamphlets set out for you to pick up yourself. When staying at a boutique hotel, we would expect to be able to relax and occupy ourselves within common areas of the property but it lacked this welcoming environment. We found ourselves just staying out until the last possible moment before heading back just to our room to sleep.
