A Scenic Retreat of All-Villa Suites
Perched on the highlands of Beppu Kannawa, Bekkan Umine offers private villas with breathtaking views.
Each villa features a flowing natural hot spring bath (both indoor and open-air), a barrel sauna, a kitchen, a wooden deck, and a private garden—inviting you to relax in your own peaceful space.
During the summer season, the panoramic rooftop pool opens, offering sweeping views over the city of Beppu.
This retreat is the sister property of Sansou Kannawaen.
"My first trip to Beppu was amazing! I chose this newly opened onsen hotel (opened in 2025) with its private hot spring bath, ocean view, and walk-up access to attractions like the ”Sea Hell” (sea hell). It was such a pleasant surprise!
Location/Facilities: The hotel is located on a mountain near Tetsuron Onsen, facing the sea towards Beppu Port. The drive up the mountain involves several winding roads – a little thrilling! Surrounded by trees, with only another hotel and a shrine nearby, it's incredibly peaceful. Our upgraded villa (B-2) was very spacious, with three double beds in the bedroom, a Japanese-style room, living room, dining room, kitchen, courtyard, swimming pool (only in summer), indoor and outdoor onsen baths, outdoor sauna, and two bathrooms. The courtyard was very private, but offered beautiful views of the Beppu sea and the steam rising from the numerous hot springs below.
Dining: The package includes dinner and breakfast: Dinner is from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, with a minimum arrival time of 7:30 PM. Both meals offered a wide selection of food of excellent quality, served on exquisite plates. Each person received a freshly grilled Wagyu beef and abalone for dinner. Breakfast items like eggs, bacon, and sausages were freshly made…
Service: The hotel responded very quickly via email (in English) provided by Ctrip, informing us of four free shuttle services from Beppu Station at 2:30/3:30/4:30/5:30 PM. We initially chose 5:30, but changed to 4:30 on the day of the visit without issue. The hotel sent a taxi to pick us up. Upon arrival at the hotel, the receptionist in the lobby could surprisingly speak Chinese and patiently explained the hotel's services and facilities to us!
In the evening, after soaking in the hot spring in the courtyard, we noticed many guests were wearing their hotel pajamas to dinner – so relaxing! After breakfast, we didn't use the hotel's free morning shuttle service. Instead, we walked down the mountain to Umi Jigoku (very close), took a city walk to the beach (about 50 minutes), and then rode back to the hotel to collect our luggage/to Beppu Station (4000 yen).
The hotel mentioned that if we wanted to use the public hot spring, we could use their sister hotel, a 5-minute walk away – maybe next time!
The hotel seemed to be quite busy (there was parking available outside many of the courtyards), but most of the staff spoke Japanese/Korean. I noticed there weren't any reviews yet, so I decided to share my experience of this unforgettable seaside hot spring resort!"
