On first night we can’t sleep due to noise in middle of night (some kind of construction and noise by truck) until 5am. We requested to move it another room that not facing the construction site and the staff is willing to arrange for us. Better sleep after change room. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Facilities are ok. Comfortable bed.
Adara Hotel Richmond

Shady and incredibly unprofessional. Booked accommodation back in February for AFL Grand Final weekend, only to have the Hotel randomly cancel my booking less than a week out, citing “electrical maintenance issues”, which is another way of saying “we can maximise our inventory revenue by on-selling your room for three times as much as the rate you secured 7 months ago”. Absolutely no care or concern for how this cancellation affected my plans, and when the Hotel Manager tried to find alternative accommodation for me, it was half an hour further away from the MCG, looked like the rooms would smell dank, AND they tried to charge me $325 per night as a “sign of goodwill” when I could book the same room on another website for $290. Lol. So make your booking with Adara at your own risk, knowing that they can and will cancel your booking if someone wants to pay more for your room. Hopefully they can fix their fake electrical issues so nobody gets fake electrocuted.

Stayed for a week during one of the busiest times of the year for Melbourne - AFL Grand Final week. We had 2 rooms. Property was in a great location - so central with trams on your doorstep and walking distance to places like Fed Square, Sealife Aquarium, Crown Complex, DFO, Burke Street Mall and the free City Circle tram. Rooms were clean and a good size with a little kitchenette which was handy. One room had a larger bathroom then the other but it was still more then adequate. We arrived very early before check in and were able to store our luggage while we went out for the day. On the ground floor was a small food court with a few different cuisines and a couple of good basic “cafe styles” which served good coffee and breakfasts. Would stay here again. Only minor complaints would be that one of our rooms wasn’t ready when we checked in (and we had flown the midnight horror so really was looking forward to a lie down lol) and we had to wait for it a couple of hours BUT as said before it was GF week so they were very busy. And one of the rooms was a bit more “tired” then the other but still more then adequate. I am nit picking really. We enjoyed our stay here.

Sofitel Melbourne on Collins

The Sofitel consistently gets it right. The customer service is excellent especially if you have Club Sofitel access. The staff are attentive and friendly and the service exceeds the other Melbourne hotels within the same price range. Food in the club is good and there is a good happy hour. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable, and each room has a fantastic view over Melbourne and its surrounds. Close to restaurants and shops. We definitely keep coming back to the Sofitel because it’s the best. I just hope they don’t abandon the nightly turn down service. There didn’t seem to be one this time and arriving into a darkened room upon checking in wasn’t ideal. Otherwise 10/10.

The only good thing about this place is location: it is within the free tram zone and right next to the Victoria market (there's a great Indonesian restaurant nearby). The rest is full of problems: 1. They don't respond to emails. If they do, they don't answer the questions properly. I had to chase them up quite a few times. 2. The rooms are rather worn out. The arm chair looked too dirty and old that I could not bring myself to put my clean clothes on it. Shower doors are poorly designed - the whole bathroom gets flooded. The holder for the shower head can't be fixed - and difficult to reach. 3. The rooms are noisy (the ones facing the main street). 4. Most importantly however - when I thought I lost my door key (the electronic one) I went to the reception and asked them to cancel it and reissue me a new one. I told the receptionist that the electronic key had a sleeve with the name of the hotel and the my room number so if he did not cancel it, the key could be used to locate and access my room very easily. He then told me he had cancelled my old key and reissued me a new one. I was not convinced the electronic key code for the room had been reset but went to my room in the hope that he was right. I found my original key the next morning and of course it was working. So he had lied to me. If I had lost my key, someone could easily have come in to my room and steal my things or even worse come in when I was there. The key sleeve had all the info - hotel name and room number. He put my life and goods at risk. NEVER STAYING HERE AGAIN!!! Terrible reception staff. Their front desk staff are either poorly trained or inexperienced - this is surely a major management issue. I have work visits planned for Melbourne. Will not be returning to this badly run hotel.
